I have a 1998 330 Sundancer, and recently needed my windshield wipers, only to find that while the port one works fine, the stbd does not work. When I flip the switch, it does not come on.

Seems to me it could be either the switch at the helm, or the motor. Anything else it could be?

I'm handy with a multimeter, just not sure how to gain access to the motor, anyone know?

Once I have access, are there simply two terminals, and I check for whether there is a voltage present? What voltage should I see?

Seems that if there is sufficient voltage present at the motor, then replace the motor, otherwise check the switch, right? In checking the switch, presumably I disconnect the switch and check the resistance: should be no or minimal resistance when engaged.

Have I got all this right?

This should keep some people busy for a while...

Ok, here's a high school math problem for whoever has time on their hands. I'm doing a fairly long 2 day haul. Each day is about 140 miles with a midday stop at about the half way mark at a marina. I've got a 1998 310 with 5.7 Alphas. Which of the following is least expensive: 1) Top up the tanks at $4.59/gallon and run the whole 140 miles? or 2) Fill the tanks to half and refill to half at $5.76 at the half way stop. Assuming that will give me 100 mile range and some buffer.

Ultimately, how much am I costing myself by pushing fuel I won't need through the water just cause it's a buck a gallon cheaper.

Look forward to hearing your opinions.

While our size is close that is about where it stops in terms of similarity to the 98-03 340 model. Unless repowered we don't share the same engine or drivetrain, and all of the systems are reconfigured.
It's just getting tough to wade through 800 some posts with a mix of models.

My 300 has 3 batteries. Going bow to stern I’ll call them 1,2, & 3.
I'm assuming batteries #1 (front) & #2 (middle) are for the two engines, and #3 Aft is for the house system.

Yesterday went to the boat to start it up before launch. #1 & 3 are brand new deep cycle group 29. Went to turn over starboard engine and nothing. Pushed the emergency start to cross all the batteries and same thing..... So I swapped 2 with 3 so now 1 & 2 are brand new. Starboard Engine fires right up.

Next I go to fire up the port engine. Guess what..... Nothing. I should have taken the #1 battery and moved it back to #3 to see if that was the issue.

So two questions...
1 - Does anyone know which batteries go to what? I did notice that 1&2 have a cable connecting the 2 neg terminals.
2 - if I start the generator and run it, will the AC charger work (charge batteries 1-3)? FYI the genset is on its own battery.

Thanks Chris

Looking to purchase a '98 330 dancer. Noticed "spider cracks" in 2 places in dash at helm between flat area above the top of cabin door and windshield. One set of cracks is approx 2" in diameter and second set approx 4". The area seems to structurly sound and the cracks just cosmetic. I have spoke to 2 different brokers who say that this is common in these models. One person said he thought it may be a result of a screw or something putting pressure from below from the the headliner installation. Does anyone have this similar problem? Do you know what caused it? Did you fix it and if so, how?
Thanks

It was an interesting day on Saturday. Weather was chilly, but the sun eventually came out. I was scheduled to launch at 11, so I was there at 9 prepping. put the plug in, pulled the tonneau cover off, etc. Over the winter I had rebuilt my two quadrajets, so I assumed they would need some tweaking, I also had the fuel lines reflared with new nuts as the PO liked to use vice grips to get the lines off. :smt021

11 came and we launched! yay

Sat in the well and cranked the engines. Both fired (woohoo) port was idling at 2100 and stbd was idling at 1000. After about 2 mins I could smell raw fuel. Shut em down.
Both flares were not quite right and were leaking a bit. So after about 20 minutes, that was fixed. Idle was set at 750, both purred like kittens. (And my rich condition on port engine is now fixed, thanks to my winter time rebuild)

We take it out in the bay to stretch her legs after a long winter layup. Water temp is still in the 50's, so pretty chilly. Port engine is running at 140 on the nose.

Starboard engine is bouncing around 0-160 (the "0" part scares me, as a 0 reading typically indicates no water at the sensor)

I take another peek and its 215 and climbing. Shut down stbd. ugh.

Idle back on port (of course, the engine with no power steering) and bring it back to the well.

Back on the slings she goes (We have great staff at Bay Moorings!!)

Tech said needs an impeller.

BOTH impellers, housings, etc were brand new in August 2012. But due to the low water at my slip, I sucked in a lot of sand in the latter put of the season, ans I'm assuming it took the impeller out. Hopefully the marina will cover it.

I'm hoping to be back in before the long weekend!

Im looking to purchase a 98 330 Dancer. During my discussion with the broker he tells me that there is a moisture issue with the extended swim platform. Nothing major but a lot of the sea rays of this model and year had issues with "moisture" in the extended platform . Has anyone else had this problem or any moisture problems with this vintage boat? He also said he got a reading with a moisture meter around the front windshield and forward hatch. He said nothing to cause penetration to the internal header but was probably correctable by recaulking around the noted areas.
Any advice or things to look for?
Thanks for any help

I have seen various posts here in the past about people doing this ending up with air in the system causing all kinds of probems with getting the generator to run properly.

Hi All,
Short story… Looking for the process to make a tach gauge save the fuel tank size calibration. I’ve gone through the Cal 2 settings 3-4 times and bumped it up to 84 gallons, and saved/exited… but it keeps defaulting back to “0” for size.

Longer version of the story: So Bill (ZZ13) and I changed out my fuel senders for the 20” Royce flexi sensors. Changed the port side sensor first. Tested it out and port size gave a reading of 84 gallons (Speedo display), and 100% full on tach display. We noticed on the speedo readout that the starboard side read zero gallons as it alternated giving the info for port and starboard. Thinking that the starboard sensor was giving an error, we went ahead and changed it out. Bad news, the speedo sill reads 0 gallons, though the tach gauge gives an estimated % full.

After a bit more pondering, and a nice ride out to the bay, we noticed that somehow my starboard tach had been reset (although we did not do it). All the historical data was reset, gallons used, etc. I did have that happen once before, and was told that it may have been because the battery voltage dropped to low and reset it when I went to start the motor. Battery voltage should not be related this time, because the boat had been on shore power charging for a day already, and had dropped into maintenance mode.

Later in the afternoon I went into the CAL 2 settings, and configured the tank to 84 gallons, and continued to click through the rest of the settings without changing them. At the end of the process you get “EXIT Y/N” and I chose yes. The starboard tach gauge and all the needles in the starboard gauges reset themselves, and then come back on. I then clicked over to the fuel tank readings in the speedo, and it still says 0. Go back into the cal 2 settings on the starboard tach, and the setting did not seem to “save”. Tried it twice more using the same process without success.

Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong in recalibrating the size of my tank or how it got reset?

Thanks
James

PS. Big thanks to Bill for the installation help after plowing the turf the first time with his own!
