Maybe lesser isn't the right term but...
The Admiral and I had decided on a 90-91 350/370DA but with all of the costs involved it seems to have become out of reach for a couple of years..maybe longer
So she is now suggesting going back to our original idea of an 84-89 340DA ....which can be bought for about 1/2 the cost and are fairly plentiful in our area saving alot of transportation costs...the 350s are few and far between here and fairly expensive when we find one.
If I settle for one with small blocks(merc 260s) they can be bought REALLY right.
What regrets might I have settling for a boat that is not what I really want but would be adequate to do what we want. The 350DA we found and just couldn't make happen in April has me kinda bummed out knowing I will probably never find one of that caliber at that price again.
I really don't wish to "settle" but we both want to move up in size.

any thoughts or experiences

As the title says, got my first tow this morning. Not on my SR, but on my little center console runabout. Dogs were pestering me like crazy this morning and I know that means they want to go out on the water. I decided to take them for a spin and, distracted, made the cardinal mistake of heading out without looking at my fuel. :( I was in the St Lucie River near the intracoastal when I lost power, looked and realized I was out of gas. I've had my BoatUS membership for 3 weeks and, after a second of pondering, called them up. They were incredibly polite and helpful on the phone, got a call from the captain 2 minutes later and 5 minutes after the call he was pulling up!!! Then, so I wouldn't have to pay for their gas he suggested he just tow me to my marina fuel dock. He was very respectful, polite and FAST! Not sure if its customary, but I did give him a tip. So, lessons learned today; 1. ALWAYS check your fuel in any boat you have before you go anywhere!!! 2. If you don't have a BoatUS membership, get one!!! If you do have one, be thankful you do as you never know when it might come in handy! Have a great boating weekend everyone! <a href="http://clubsearay.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30245&d=1368886336" title="Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1368886338.309184.jpg

so many times I visit this sight, put in what I think is a good search effort, and come up empty handed or overwhelmed. I read the FAQ section, and feel I am searching according to instruction, however many times either I can't find the topic I am looking for or I get a list so long with "keywords" that it really doesn't help.

Anybody have any advice on how to pull up threads with various topics, especially if you remember you read it at one time???

Example:
I remember reading a thread about sleeping on the hook, and some of the anxiety involved, including water filling the boat in your sleep. The talk of high water alarms came up and someone posted a simple device that could be installed in your bilge.

I searched "high water alarm", "water alarm", "sleeping on the boat" all without being able to locate the particular thread. I found a lot of threads with discussions about sleeping on the boat, every kind of alarm you could have on a searay, lake water levels, etc., but not the particular thread I was hoping to find.

Any words of wisdom of fine tuning my searching skills? Anybody have referece to the particular thread I speak of?

thanks.

I hope I am in the last stages of a major rebuild on my boat . When I purchased it the 2 transducers for depth and speed had been damaged. One hole had been filled with a brass seacock, the other hole still had the damaged transducer in it. I am trying to decide whether to fill in these 2" holes permanently or use one for my depth finder and leave the seacock in the other. I would appreciate any thoughts on my options here

Finally, after many delays, mainly due to Mother Nature, we closed on our "new" 1998 400DB. Even better was the fact the PO took by beloved 370DA on trade. Didn't want to be a 2 boat owner.

I would like to thank CSR for all of the very informative threads which provided valuable information about these boats and engines. Of course some caused me to "feel good" about what I was doing and others caused some "angst". But not in a bad way.

The angst turned to feel good when the survey was completed. As always, a few minor problems but nothing major. I made sure the surveyor did a thorough inspection of the hull, transom, top decks and sides. Checked her for water intrusion at every thru hull, hatch, port hole, everything.

The engines are the "dreaded" gas powered 7.4 Horizons. Fortunately they have the extended risers and lift mufflers. Had the engines completely checked (compression, oil, coolant) the whole 9 yards. They could not have checked out better.

I used the word dreaded tongue in cheek. If it not were for information on this site that made me aware of the problems these engines (and this hull) have had in some instances, I would not have had as much angst nor would I have been as concerned. Moral here: Approach every boat purchase this way and be prepared to dish out the $'s necessary to make sure your "new baby" is in the condition you think it is.

I know that many feel that diesel is the only way to go and, in most cases, I would agree. But this is Minnesota and the Upper Mississippi River system is just not conducive to this.
Although one can travel great distances, most times we don't. Diesel fuel is harder to find, the closest to my marina is 15+miles away. I usually burn through about 500 gallons a year at most. We do have currents, especially when the water is high but we do not fight tides and the wind is usually light so manueverability is not as critical as coastal areas or the Great Lakes.

This is likely my last large boat purchase in Minnesota and I am not as concerned about resale at this point in my life. I will be retiring in a few years and the admiral and I may winter somewhere warmer and, who knows, we may own a boat there too.

Anyway, I've rambled long enough. Thanks to everyone who posted their thoughts, experiences and owners (previous and current) regarding this boat. We are excited to have a bridge boat!

I've spent a good amount of time searching all the various wakeboard tower threads but there was nothing that really summed up the satisfaction of having one vs not having one. I've got a new to me 240 Sundeck and will be using it a lot to teach friends and kids how to wakeboard. Can't say if we will board a lot or not at all but I am tempted by the idea of adding a wakeboard tower.

For those with a tower, are you happy with it? Do you find it gets in the way of things? Did you add the tower and regret it, etc? Just looking for general comments on these Sundecks with and without the towers.
Thanks.
