I need a little help guys. I promised my grandparents I would help them to spread my uncles ashes(their son). My uncles requested that his ashes be spread off of Mission point in the east arm of the grand traverse bay and I dont need to go out far as I will have 10 people on the boat. My question is I saw on a map that there is a boat launch in mission point is it any good for my boat and in general how is that area of the bay. I will be trailering for 3 hours to an unfamiliar area so any help will be much appreciated.

Hi All,

After several years of trailer boating around the state (Lk Charlevoix, Les Cheneaux Islands, Torch, Indian River), we sold our 268 Monterey last September and just took delivery of a 2003 340 Searay Sundancer. We are slipped in Grand Haven and look forward to meeting new folks and enjoying the summer on it. We have a 5 and 7 yr old, that have both been on boats since they were infants. I have lots to learn so I welcome any advice/suggestions.

I have been an avid reader of CSR forums over the last few months, and really enjoy all of the information. <a href="http://clubsearay.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30173&d=1368462660" title="Name: boat.jpg

Fished the port of Harbor Beach, Michigan this past Friday and Saturday. Harbor Beach is located on the southern end of Lake Huron. We entered a salmon tournament that has been held every 1st Saturday in May for the past 7-8 years. A fun event that pays very well with lots of great cash and product sponsors.

Pre-fishing on Friday, we set up about 3 miles south of the harbor in shallow looking for muddy, warm water. Had a brown trout hit, jump twice, then lost him at the net. Went to our 2012 CanCan tournament winning spots in 80-120fow and had a triple header right away. We boated a 17.5 king on a braid dipsey 200 back UV spoon, laker and coho. Ended the day with 3 fat lakers pushing 8-12lbs, two kings (17 and 10 lbs) and a small 2# coho.

On tournament day (Saturday) we did a quick pass along the wall, nothing. Moved out to our 2012 spots, not much. Boated a 12 lb king out there on 2 colors with a green/orange pro-king spoon. So, we then worked a little north and kept on the E/W troll and picked away at big lake trout for the rest of the day. Took the biggest laker for the tournament in 90fow on the floor with gold flasher/meat rig, 16.88lbs! The rest of our trout were big too. Not one under 10lbs and exploding with smelt in their bellies all fish hit a gold cut herring rig. That baby has always been a great trout setup. Lost a 13-15# king on that 2 color lead core/proking set up during a triple header that would have put us in 1st place again easily.....ugh.

Ended the day with 8 fish, 1 king, 5 piggy lakers, 1 coho and 1 small steel.

Took $712 for 5th and $250 for big trout. Not bad.

Fishing report - southern Lake Huron

The south end of the lake has been on fire the past couple of weeks with great catches of king salmon, steel head, coho salmon and a few lake trout...

The south end of the lake has been on fire the past couple of weeks with great catches of king salmon, steel head, coho salmon and a few lake trout and brown trout mixed in.

The catches out of Port Sanilac and Lexington has averaged 7-12 fish per boat with lots of kings in the teen size range. Great looking, healthy fish.

I fished the Salmon Stakes tournament this past Saturday and we went out of Harbor Beach. We landed 6 fish and lost 3. Our biggest was a 13lb king along with 2 lake trout in the 10-12lb range. We also landed 2 coho and a nice steel head.

Fishing is good in 20-35 fow, but the shallow water area is very murky due to the recent rains and runoff. Finding clearer water in the 43-44 degree range is the key.

Short dipseys and short lead core rods worked the best as well as shallow running down riggers.

Here is my dad with the 13#er:

Bloody cooler:

The fleet out of Port Sanilac and Lexington boated more kings than we did. A few fish were weighed in the tournament pushing 18-19lbs. This is very nice to see. The fish are very fat and healthy and we have an abundance of them this year. Hopefully, as the water warms, the biomass of fish moves north to where we are fishing this weekend.

I'll have another report after this weekend. The Can2Can salmon tournament is scheduled for Saturday in Harbor Beach. Hope we can repeat our win from 2012!!

This is the best fishing we have seen on Lake Huron since the crash in '02.

Good fishing!!!

Well, long story short, my hips and lower back have been unkind to me this winter. (for those who don't know, I have artificial hips and a severe arthritic disease) I was having a hard time stepping over the bench seats at the end of last season in my Boston Whaler Supersport, and getting out of the water via the swim ladder was near impossible and certainly not dignified.

On a whim, I decided to sell my beloved Boston Whaler 15 Super Sport, and......buy another 15 foot Boston Whaler. This time, I went with a Montauk, which is a center console, and no bench to try to climb over. As an added bonus, I can now fish easily and perhaps even set up my down riggers which have lived in my attic for the last 10 years.

When my six year old son first saw it, his reaction was "That's stupid!!!" I guess he liked the sleek sport, but I won him over during the ensuing boat ride. My oldest son, who is going to be 10 in June has entered the "Meh..." stage, but requested to take the helm as we were winding up the test run.

These are two videos I took of the occasion. Youtube is being a butthead and won't upload them, so facebook will have to do. The second one illustrates why the 340 is such a desirable boat.

The boat performed beautifully and everything works as advertised, which is nice. The only issue I have is I found three mouse turds in the cockpit. Evidently the rodent climbed up the extension cord when I was polishing the last couple weeks. I hope the little varmint saw there was no food and left.
