I don't have any records that my AirSeps were ever replaced. I had them cleaned as part of the major scheduled maintenance service. However I'm thinking that perhaps assuming that they were never replaced it might make sense to get new set instead of cleaning the old one. BTW, they looked very clean.

What you guys think?

Currently looking at a new purchase - Really like the boat (2003-35 Tiara Open), What scares me are the Cat 3126 engines. - I don't know anything about diesels at all. 414 hours - Should I be "afraid" of these? What should I be asking about or need to know about these engines. - If we move forward will certainly have a CAT tech survey. Admrial loved the boat - Thats good!

Looking for help - Thanks in advance. Ignorance of diesels makes me very nervous...

We must have. Do any of us "make the call" without trying to fix it ourselves? This story repeats itself many times over for us boaters.....Something is wrong or broken. We try to find out what caused it or where it is.

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains must be the truth" or in this case, the cause of the high sodium level in the engine oil.

My last oil sample test had one of my engines with higher than normal sodium. There are a limited number of reasons for this in the CAT 3116;

1 coolant fluid (they checked for that so it isn't it)
2 leaking raw water pump (gear driven on the 3116)
3 sea water backing down in to the turbo from a faulty exhaust riser

the water pump shows no sign of leakage on the outside so I took off the riser to inspect it and the turbo. The turbo seemed OK, not clean as a whistle but no rust or liquid present. I sent the pics of the turbo off to CAT and they said "probably not but you better check the riser". So here is what I did......

set up a pumping station using my flush kit for the AC system and the engine water system.....

run water through the riser...

Check for water running down the riser back to where the turbo would be

I did 15 gallons and not a drop down the pipe. I guess the next thing to check is the pump.

Elementary!

Pulled props and had them spec'd on a Hale MRI at Propulsion, Inc of Hudson, WI. (715)386-2547 www.propfix.com

Everything checked out fine, with the exception of the pitch on each was closer to 26p, than 25 as the props are stamped...

LH = 22"x25p - Actual pitch average of all blades is 25.791
RH = 22"x25p - Actual pitch average of all blades is 25.639

This might explain the slight run slow from 2800rpm WOT spec.

I am looking for a set of "spot on" 22"x25p props, if anyone knows of a pair for sale.

Another question - I have 3" of tunnel clearance around my OEM props. Is there any efficiency gained by running 24" diameter? Would you back off on pitch or run same?

Looks like they only built the 50DB for one or two years (it replaced the 48DB and then was replaced by the 52DB in 2006 or 2007 I believe). Anyone have one of these? If so I'd love to hear pros/cons, things to look for, options that some had and some didn't, common failures, etc. Thanks in advance for an/all advice! Sincerely, Jason.
