Hey guys,

I've been on the site a few hours and I've searched "400 sundancer" and read all the threads.

I'm looking at one of these and, of course, will have a marine and engine survey done. But, does anyone have any additional advice? Maybe even specific to this boat / engine? Things to look for?

This will be my first - so I'm kind of going in blind.

Thanks & nice to be here.....

Im looking to purchase a 98 330 Dancer. During my discussion with the broker he tells me that there is a moisture issue with the extended swim platform. Nothing major but a lot of the sea rays of this model and year had issues with "moisture" in the extended platform and even some "soft spots". Has anyone else had this problem or any moisture problems with this vintage boat? He also said he got a reading with a moisture meter around the front windshield and forward hatch. He said nothing to cause penetration to the internal header but was probably correctable by recaulking around the noted areas.
Any advice or things to look for?
Thanks for any help

Season after season I pine for a boat and always find an excuse not to purchase and put it off. A friend or coworker will tease, "the best days of a boat owners life are the day they buy and the day they sell, har har har", "do you think you're up to owning a boat (because you're woman)". Or just being afraid of the financial commitment "what if we have a downsizing at work?", ...endless psych-outs.

Two weeks ago we got the news that a coworker, and recent retiree had died. This guy did everything right. Built up some wealth for a very comfortable retirement, retired young, moved to FL and was looking forward to getting a boat and spending leisurely days with his wife out on the water. He had maybe 3 months of "quality" retirement, and then he got sick. Never got the boat, spent his time doing chemo and watched his retirement dream fade away.

So, this is the year.

This is the year, to put my fears aside, this is the year to tell the naysayers "shut up" (and stop being jealous), this is the year to put me first and go for my dream. This is the year I stop being a dreamer and start living the dream.

I've spent a week poking around places like Yachtworld, Craigslist, etc. to understand what I could get for my price range, joined this forum and poked around to see what people like/don't like about the types of boats they have. Finally, I have hooked up with a broker and discussed my thinkings, looked at a few boats in that category and now we are off.

My status should change from "boatless" to 240 Sundeck owner by June 1.

This is my first post on the forum, stay tuned for more of my adventure!

For some reason I didn't see this Newbie Lounge when I first posted questions about boats I'm looking to buy.

Now I narrow down to a couple of options, I came across one of the 2002 280. I read some of the posts in here saying most people are happy with their T4.3L for these year range, in terms of performance. Can people please comment on any complaint at all if the setup is underpowered?

This is how I envision my use of the boat:

- 50%: Just us 2 (250 lbs) with 2 kids (toal 150 lbs). So that's a no brainer!
- 30%: with additional 2 more adults (from 250-350 lbs, depending on guest's weight, hahaha)
- 20%: Occasionally would add 2 more adults (another 250-350 lbs), making 6 adults, 2 kids.
- For sport probably inner tub/sport tub towing only. Maybe some wakeboard down the road (we haven't mastered the sport yet. :smt001 )

Reason I asked is on iBoats.com forum, when asked about the Regal 2760/Sundancer 270 having the T4.3L V6, some people say sometimes planning takes times, and when loaded it might not perform great. :)

Oh, this one has a generator too. Usually how heavy is that?
It's single prop.

If everything is in great shape, what's a fair price around CA. Asking ~$44k.

Thank you.

We are in the market for a Sundancer 320 or 340 v-drive. Not sure of year but at least a 2003. I have seen several that have already had one of the engines replaced (some with very low hours). Others missing generators etc. We will be using it for a few years in fresh water. We have ambitions of relocating it to the coast at some point (or not) if this makes a difference on making the decision.

The guys here on the lake have repeatedly said not to buy a boat from the coast that has seen nothing but salt. I really don’t know if this is true or not and would like to hear any pro/con advise on the subject. Whatever we buy will certainly have a survey prior to finalizing the sale.

I guess what I am asking is where do I obtain the knowledge to keep from buying a boat that puts me in the poor house due to mechanical issues? Are there any certain years to avoid? Besides length, are there other reasons to buy a 340 DA over the 320 DA? I see much better deals in other parts of the country than I am able to find on our lake and shipping up to 6k really doesn’t scare me when some of those boats are 30k less than can be purchased around here.

I have owned several boats over the years but nothing this large or with twin engines. We have always bought used and taken less of a hit when moving up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as well as any good leads on boats for sale by owner is appreciated.
