307 in place of my 350?
Hello, I found my 350 needs alot of work and the summer is slipping away. I found a Chevy 307, will it bolt right in place of the 350? Will exhaust manifolds fit right?

Yes, but a 307 is an anemic car motor with low HP. It was popular in the bad days of smog protection in the 70's. You would have to convert it to a marine motor (cam, intake manifold, freeze plugs, etc etc). MUCH easier to get a newer 350 or 305. Stay away from 307's! Even in cars.....

Redhook is correct the only thing a 307 is good for is a boat anchor

307s were used from 1968 through the early 70s it had a 283 bore and a 327 stroke while not as good as a 4 inch bore 327 or 350 it does have a far better bore stroke ratio than a 305

Hard to believe you found a 307, let alone one worthy of sticking in your boat. Are you sure you got the size right? Maybe it's a 305?
The 307 got a bad rep, because they were typically lower cost, lower HP, and were popular in the early and mid 70's smog control era when HP went through the floor as engineers did everything they could to try and react to the goverment regulations brought about by the early 70's gas shortages. But in reality, the 307 is not that much different than a 283 or 327. As another noted, it's a 283 bore with a 327 crank. A slightly different variation, the 327 bore with a 283 crank was the very highly touted 302 offered in early Z-28's.

Thanks for all your insight. The 307 I found was a Marine Motor. It was sold before I could get to it. I was only going to use it to finish out the summer. I am planning on rebuilding my 350 this winter. Where I boat is flooded like crazy now anyway, alot of objects floating around to hit and cause more problems.

Some 307's went through a rash of soft cam issues. They would wear the lobes right off the cam.

My favorite engine! I had a '69 and kill myself for selling it in the late 70's
