Menu planning

Pacific Yachting magazine probably 10 years ago had an elderly chef that had a 26 foot sail boat. He died. He had recipes made with canned and fresh foods that were boat friendly. I have no idea if he ever wrote a cook book but if he did I would get it and have some very good meals https://www.pacificyachting.com/
There are a few recipes on the web page. If you find his cook book please let us all know as it might help some.

Between the microwave/convection oven, stovetop, Magma grill with optional griddle plate there really isn't too much we haven't cooked on our boat... And I use this on the dock for my crab boiling $20.

+1 - we have one of these butane cooktops and they work great - just need a little wind protection. We use it with a cast iron pan. Great for pancakes.

Magma grill is on our list of upgrades! Might just have to move it up closer to the top of the list. Lol

I’ve got a Magma Kettle grill and it is junk.
Blows out easily, heats unevenly, and the lid gets hot as hell.
There are better grills out there for less money. Look at the Webers.
You may have to get creative if you want to mount the Weber, but the Magma mounts aren’t cheap either.

Latest with us is having a hot meal while underway. Most of the time when we are on the boat we are going somewhere it seems. The age old staple has always been a sandwich while under way.

When we were going north last spring we started coming up with ways to have something "hot".

With 6-7 hours at the helm - amazing how much difference warm makes over a cold sandwich.

So what do we do.

One night we grill dinner, then while the grill is on, we start cooking other things.

Last week before we left the Chesapeake we cooked 4-5 hamburgers, package of hot dogs, and some chicken breasts. Take them off the grill, cool for 30-45 minutes, then into a Ziploc bag into the fridge.

Lunch time, take the meat out, microwave - boom - warm sandwich.

Tacos are great. We fix tacos on the boat and cook double meat. Left over in the fridge.

Lunch time heat up the meat, throw some veggies on - boom.

If your Magma is more than just a few years old, call Magma and explain your problem. I did that and they sent me a new regulator, free of charge, and that fixed the problems.

Great ideas. Thanks for sharing them.

We have pan fried hamburgers on the 2 burner stove, they were amazing. Pretty sure the wife used butter, they were absolutely amazing (I had some alcohol and we were on the water, might have had something to do with it... ) oh, and she put the buns on the frying pan briefly to toast the bread as well, she forgot oil, so she just spread mayo on the buns as an oil.

If you’ve got the microwave/convection oven, learn how to use the convection side! Biscuits/onion rings/lasagna/meat loves are all easy! We make a lot of casseroles at home and warm them in the convection oven.

Here is what I did for a grill when I got tired of the Magma’s. Bought this at HD for $99 had an SS pan made for it and used a rod holder. When it dies, over the side (trash can) and buy another one. 1 year and still going strong!

When I replaced our Magma this summer I went up to the larger size and it makes a ton of difference in heat control. I also added a prep board so I don't use the swim step any longer...

Todays lunch

Left overs from a small tavern in NC where we had dinner the other nite. Shrimp and grits - with big thick chunks of bacon. Was too rich to eat the whole serving at once. Brought half of it back to the boat, heated up in the microwave - great lunch while sitting at the helm.

Tonight had dinner off the boat, got back and did some grilling for lunch food the next couple of days...

My lunch tomorrow - and the next day...

Finally - had to throw this in....

Dont mind me asking which and where? I love me some shrimp and grits as well as some good carolina red rice!

Bellhaven. Across the street from the Ace Hardware. Very creamy, some of the best I have had. Name of the place is called the Tavern. There is just it and a bbq place.
