Clarion CMD-4 Bluetooth integration

I have used a Bluetooth adapter (not the one in your link) that plugs into the aux in on my Clarion... worked just fine.

Welcome to CSR!

Similar to above. Mine is really old now. Probably time for a new one that works better. but mine works.

We have the JL Audio MBT-RX and it works to perfection. I run the satellite receiver through it as well.

It is hooked to the CMD-4 also.

Yep, we have something similar (fusion bt-100) and as long as you have a aux-in available it's the easiest way to go! On my 260DA we did not have an aux-in so I used a Bluetooth FM modulatort that worked pretty good but not nearly as simple as the aux-in.

Never used it, but if im reading right, you would still need a blue tooth receiver to go along with it. For $50, id skip that thing and just wire up the blue tooth to the the CMD4's rear AUX-In RCA's.

If I hook up the jl audio blue tooth adapter to my cmd4, will I be able to change songs via the clarion unit or my boat remote or the songs will only change by changing them directly on your phone?

If you are going in through the AUXIN all control will be on the streaming device and not the Clarion.

Is going in thru the aux the only option?
Yes. I also have that unit. I also have the old Clarion iPOD integration unit but it does not work well. It uses first generation connector and is very limited in what you can do with it.

Yes, thats the only viable audio-in option on an older CMD.

The JL, and all other universal BTs, only send an audio signal to the old head unit. No data. So no means to control or see anything playlist wise, through the head or remotes.

I was also looking at that as an option. What limitations are there?
They sell the old to new iPhone adapters so I'm not worried about that. I'd just like to play music from my phone and have the ability to change songs from the transom remote.

Download the manual to see. It only allows preset playlists. They have to be named clarion1, clarion2 etc and only up to 5. You cant search for songs, although you can play lists etc from a plugged in iPOD. I have not tried a lightning adapter, but for some reason I think they don’t work.

This. My boat had an XMD1, which has no AUX. So I found a CSR member upgrading his XMD3 and bought it off him. It’s a drop in for my XMD1, and it has an AUX. Added the Fusion BT100 and it works great! Highly recommend the BT100. Excellent range.

When we bought our boat and moved it to GA, one of the first things was to integrate the salon TV sound into the CMD4. I plugged a BT receiver into the aux and a 3.5mm cable and nothing worked. When I removed the panel and looked behind it, there was a JL Audio MBT-RX wired in. It has been an amazing device. I have had it paired with my phone and walked down the dock at least 100’ and it did not drop.

Most AUX adapters do have a third wire (besides red and white speakers) for 12v power. I spliced it into the switched power for the amp. So it’s on when the stereo is on, but off otherwise. No worries about battery drain.
