Pitch black at night, no power. Light in houses, joy.

Nothing at all to do with power, but the past few days we've noticed that a cactus in front of the condo next door has been chewed on. Big time chewed on. This is a cactus with the wide "leaves" and spikes about 1.5" long.
The only animal I'm aware of that will eat those things is a javelina. We see coyotes from time to time and hear them howling most nights, but we've never seen a javelina around here.

I'm not sure how good a javelina would taste. I'd just like to see it.
We were in Sedona, AZ about 3 weeks ago, driving through a residential neighborhood when a BIG javelina crossed the road right in front of us. He wasn't in a huge hurry, but wasn't taking his time either. Dark brown, almost black, and an ugly mutha!

That'll definitely keep your mind off the white stuff...
We've been deprived of snow here Dec. and Jan. But Feb seems to be making up for it big time. Another 8-12" tonight. Our kids actually missed school last week for cold (-34 last week). We don't typically close for snow unless it hits early am and plows can't keep up. Our snowmobiles are getting a work out big time! About 500 miles this month already. M

Get a trail camera and set it up where the feeding has been taking place. You will have your best chance to see what it is that way.

Sorry, too late. We left the sunshine in AZ on Sunday afternoon, only to arrive in WA with a foot of new snow and temps in the low 20's. What a change.
We have spent the past 24 hours going through 5 weeks of mail and magazines, buying groceries, shoveling a bit of snow, and getting settled back into our routine.
I pinched my sciatic nerve right after we arrived in AZ and it's still keeping me from doing much. My Galley Wench found out today just how well her hands fit around a shovel handle while I was forced to watch from inside. Sucks (NOT!!!)

Eric, thanks for that link. I've noticed our weather here in SE Washington state has been cooling off over the last several years.
We live in a desert area and used to have about 2-3 weeks of 100* plus temps every summer. This past few years those high temps have only happened about a week or so.
Did you happen to send that link to Al Gore?
