You and I have the exact same boat and exact same problem. After a lot of research I have found and 99% decided on the raymarine a68 multi function display with chirp downvision. After talking to west marine and checking the specs it fits the current cut out almost exactly (I think it's .25 inches smaller and little thicker). But it is quite the upgrade over the navman.
Did you go with the raymarine a68??

Anyone in need of a Winter cover for the 270SLX? I have one for sale (like new)

Hi guys.
I have two winterization questions.

1. How do you fog the 496mag? Can I just use the fogging spray? I plan on winterizing it myself.

2. For those of you with a remote spotlight, do you take it off for the winter time when you have the boat shrink wrapped?
Thanks!

You can not spray fogging oil in a fuel injected engine. Merc has a procedure for running the engine on a cocktail mix of 2 stroke oil and stabilizer with gas. Quick search on here and you will find it well documented.

Thanks. I plan to run antifreeze thru the earmuffs. If I use the cocktail mix at the same time will it stall out before the antifreeze has worked it's way thru the engine?

Won’t stall out ever on the mix. Will run fine.
If you want to go simple, pour a few ounces of 2 stroke oil in your cool fuel module and the rest gas and run on that for the 2-3 minutes it takes to fill with antifreeze.

Hi new to the forum. 2011 250 SLX with 8.2L and sport tower.

I have the Sports arch on my 2011 250 that does not fold, and I would really like it to. Has anyone modified theirs to fold down a bit, or think that is possible? I need about a foot of clearance (after folding down nav light) to get under a bridge that it would be great to get under.

I have a 2006 270 SLX and am looking for an sport tower/arch. Anyone know where I can get one?

Another fun time question. If you use fuel stabilizer for two years on the same gas (like you never ran the tank out then refilled) is the gas "bad". I would imagine that it's not as bad as it would be if no stabilizer was used, but how long is it good for? The gas is non-ethanol.
Asking for a friend...
Jester

Non ethanol is good for a few years with stabilizer.

I gotta Assume you did the standard Google search?
I know there are several manufacturers of Sports towers, each having their own spin on design and attachment. Were you looking for a stock one?
I would bet a stock or OEM Sports tower for a 270 would be, Pricey at best.
Ain't nothin' on our boats cheap.

Aaaaannnnnd since I seem to be on such a bloody roll here:

Between all the flavors of the the 250 the 270 sport boats, what's the longest trip you have taken in your boat? Both in hours and distance traveled. What do you think your average fuel burn was, and how many locks did you do?

I thought it would be an interesting topic.

Speaking of Paul. How's that SDX 270 with the Big Ass Outboard on it?
Still Loving it?
I am.
I launched it yesterday for the start of the season (it has been extremely rainy here). I took it for a quick run before tying it up at my dock. 51 mph and smooth as silk. I do miss the bling of my SLX somedays. It has been trouble free mechanically, and the outboard winterization was so simple and easy compared to an IO. Now, backing into my slip - that is a nightmare. The extended hull design combined with the outboard makes reverse turning horrific.
Do I miss the large unencumbered swim platform and shiny bling from the SLX - yep. But the smoothness, quietness, and roominess are a fair trade off.

51MPH is cookin'!!!!
I can dig backing up. Where I dry Dock I gotta do this fun pirouette turn to get everything oriented the right way. It's always a stressful end to the day. Makes me wish I had the bucks for a wet slip and the high and dry.
