Had my boat in the barn on the trailer installing a new tv and out of nowhere the generator fired up. It ran about 5-10 seconds and shut off. Kohler 5ecd. No clue what happened. It was in auto mode but I wasn’t near the remote start.

Any ideas?

failing battery in the remote?
It's a hardwired remote at the breaker panel.

That's an odd one... don't know. Maybe you pinched/shorted some wires during your TV installation?

Is it possible that in auto mode it detected a drop in battery voltage and started up to charge the batteries?

Then maybe it shut down due to no water pressure?

This may be unrelated, but then again......

I trailer every week. Eventually at some point during the week I will go out to the boat and the remote will be beeping, giving me a low coolant error. I attributed that to being on the trailer and losing sea water. Now I’m wondering if the genny hasn’t started automatically each week causing the error.

Surely there isn’t some weekly exerciser that is turning it on.

Batteries were fully charged btw

As far as I know, that feature does not exist.

I found an old thread on this forum. Apparently this isn’t that uncommon with that genny. Consensus was that it was a software glitch or maybe it comes on if it senses a low battery.

My batteries were fully charged. From now on battery switch will be off when not in water.

I remember reading something like that on here also. I thought I read there was a setting. Got a link to your search?

Worst generators on the planet. Mine has 210 hours on it and @ $5000 in repairs thus far. Ethynol is destroying them. Sad that Kohler cant seem to build a better unit. I hear the diesels are pretty much maintenance free.
