If you feel comfortable you can take the 2nd Bridge through the Amity Channel to the East West Channel on the North Side. If not go to the third bridge and head south to the state channel then you can take the Amity Cut or Lindenhurst Cut up to the North again. Follow the channel out to the Robert Moses Bridge and once under follow Bouys on the North side to Bouy 32 then straight to the Watch Hill entrance channel.
Bergen Point is a great place to fuel up on the way out or back. We just got back yesterday from WH and the bugs were not too bad. We had actually had about 17 boats from Wantagh out there. If you have more questions let me know. Say hi to Doug!

Thanks Kevin C. Have done amity cut in the past. Was unsure about depth and buoys by bridge. Lots of shallow spots on map. Used to go to 35 but have heard others use 32. Will give a try. Thanks and glad to hear mosquitos down a little

Be sure to follow the bouys on your way into Watch Hill. What is your best route to watch hill from wantagh?
Thanks

VERY shallow water on either side.
Yep, very well marked except for the missing bouy that Seatow dragged away with the boat that hit it

Kevin is spot on.
Coming from Freeport, I would go north up the Amityville cut to get up on plane ASAP.
You could get up on plane when you enter the cut, and not come off until you get to Watch Hill.
Another suggestion if you feel brave:
I used the Amityville Channel, just east of the second Wantagh Bridge, all the time with my old 300 Sundancer.
Wouldn’t try it with my 410, but was an easy run in my 300.
Plenty of water back in there if you follow the buoys and stay on plane. Toughest part is entering it from the west, but once you see the first set of buoys you just follow them as they snake around all the way to Amityville.
Probably best if you could go through with a smaller boat the first time so you learn how to get in and out of it, but if you can master it you save a whole bunch of time.

Kevin
I’ve been at WH since Sunday. Wish I knew you were here I would’ve stopped by and said hello.
KevinI saw you pull up and launch your Dinghy. I was in the A/B pier and recognized your boat. I walked over a couple times but you were closed up and did not want to intrude. I had another friend in D-land on Sunday. I had about 17 boats out there from our marina and was kept busy setting up our events. Next time I will knock.
