So, I was feeling strong yesterday so I removed the aftercoolers. Starboard took all of 20 mins. The port took maybe 45 mins to an hour. The main issue was the lower bolts. Are very hard to get to. I tried to remove the lower bracket but the 2 bolts would not budge and I couldn’t get good leverage to force it. I may try an impact wrench to take it off as I think it would make the reinstall much easier. So removal wise I would give it 5 wrenches on the difficulty scale. 10 being the removal of an impeller on our previous 320.

I ran into a small issue with the tube coming off the turbo but will create a new thread for that.

I did the same thing....tore that little hose. Very expensive. I believe I paid $50 for it at my Service Dept. But they had it!

I actually discovered a a break in the weld that attaches the bracket to the pipe leading from the turbo. Looks like there was a weak spot in the weld. Didn’t even try to unbolt it. Not sure if it was due to vibrations

Most likely corroded from the inside out. They’re inexpensive and I would replace all the pipes on the cooling circuit.

Just finished up doing mine. On the starboard side I removed the piping from the turbo to the AC first, which opened up some room. The three lower screws were on very tight and wouldn't budge - I used a 1/2" torque wrench to get enough leverage. Having done it once, it will go quicker next time.

Question on re-assembly, is there any sealant/lubricant used with the rubber hose connections to facilitate easier removal down the road?

So i spoke with cummings and Seaboard and that pipe is about $435! I think i'm going to see if it can be welded.
 
I didn’t believe that so I checked. Part number is 3897639 and holy crap it’s gold plated on the inside with platinum and diamonds on both ends.

found it for 375 but that’s strong for a pipe.

Yeah, i thought we were looking at different pipes when I spoke to them but Cummins confirmed it.

Upper Fairfield county. Just had it welded. Picked it up on the way to work this am. Cost me all of $20 ($10 plus tip)

CRaig did you used to own or still own that Rinker up in Mystic with the wrapped black hull? Was for sale last year.....?
