Oil extraction pump

I’ve got a Jabsco 17800 series.
It’s the one with the pump on top of a round bucket.

A $29 Shop vac from Walmart, a long clear plastic tube, and some duct tape to use as a size reducer. Slurps the oil out lickety split. Store the vac in a Hefty bag, and use it for brake fluid and oil only.

I’ve got an extra one of these if anybody is interested
Model# 17800-2000
These are the good ones
I’ll let it go for $200 free shipping

Bought the Mityvac 7201 fluid evacuator plus from Amazon. Does the job but takes a few min to drain an 8.1L. Makes each engine a multi-beer job.

Question for you guys with an electric pump setup... Do these ONLY work if you warm up the oil first? I have tried them on my engines after I rebuilt the entire pump and it was SLOW as molasses. I however did not warm up the oil, but it was 60 or 70 degrees out at the time. I thought that would be sufficient but curious if the results would have been significantly different if I warmed things up.

I warm the oil up just a bit. A quick idle over to the fuel dock, for example. But I agree with you that the pump is slow. You can roach the impellers. Its 4 screws to remove the face plate and check. I keep a spare impeller for emergencies at winterization time.

I think the previous owner did just that - smoke the impeller. I rebuilt it with a new impeller and I just wasn't impressed. I will warm things up and try it this spring.

I find the warmer the better. Works well when the oil is hot. Wear laytex gloves. Rubber Impeller is an older model and bad design. most of us have that model. Newer versions have metal pump..$$$.

General rule of thumb for changing oil, always warm up the engine.
