The "virus" What are your thoughts

Watch the update online at fox. Things may change in the next 8 days.

Interesting white house briefing tonight..... Wonder what the loss of life to the virus would be compared to the loss of life from depression/suicide from people losing everything. He made mention of that as far as an economic collapse

I know in the late fall / early winter quite a few people were very sick - but flu tests all came back negative. It would not surprise me if many of those were ill with COVID.
I personally know several people that experienced the same.

Your right sir, but when I posted he had just said effective immediately. Typical Big Jim.
However I am hopeful things are going to change in about 8 days after watching
FOX online to see complete briefing .
Mr. Holt not my guy.

Yes hope so, but too early to tell what the mortality rate here will be. Many cases in the US (and Canada) still haven't had an outcome. Out of all cases, you have (at least) an additional 3% reported in serious or critical condition.

Mortality rate will continue to decrease as it has been. The number of positive tests will drive mortality rates down below 1%.

In Italy, the average age of those who died is 80.

I read a news report yesterday that there have been a total of 3 corona virus deaths in a nursing home in my county.

I read a little further for the details. All 3 were in their 90’s and 2 of the 3 were in “comfort care” which I interpreted to be Hospice.

This is one of the reasons why some people are still skeptical.

My expectation is that the quarantines and federal mandates around the “15 days...”?will begin to get rolled back in the next 2-3 weeks.

There are a lot of people dying with the virus ….not because of the virus.... I am not downplaying the numbers just saying the statistics are not accurate …..yet

I work for a gov't contractor providing cyber security services to a large federal agency. My whole team has been working from home since way before all this started and my company sent out an email last week that anyone not currently working from home is to start to do so immediately so I 'think' my job will be safe.

My step-son is a detective at a local police department. He was just told that effective next week 'all' sworn officers will be on patrol, including detectives, and will start working a (2) 12 shift. So 2 days on 6 days off. Next week he will work Monday and Tuesday then be off 6 days then back to work the following week Tuesday and Wednesday for 2 12 hour shifts. As per contract he said he will still get paid for 40 hours. Not sure how cost effective this will be for the department paying everyone for 40 hours when they are only working 24? He is happy with that aspect but not thrilled about going back on patrol.

Also, we keep our boat in an underground mine in the winter. Called today to schedule to pick it up Thursday evening. Normally they were open late Thursdays just for this. Well not surprisingly they have changed their procedures. They are no longer open at night or weekends and they are all booked for pick-ups until next Wednesday so I'll be there then. Have to take the morning off work but want to get it home so I can get started getting everything ready. Will be lots of buffing, fix my shower sump, replace my anchor line, and re-stock everything back in the boat. Still hoping to get it in the water mid-May as usual. We can easily go to our marina and take the boat out and never get within about 50' of anyone else.

Over 40% of those that died in Italy are 20 to 59

Italy was unable to slow the spread of the virus. If you look at how the virus spiked on a chart it's not hard to understand why so many are dying. 25% of their hospital workers are testing positive for the virus. Many countries are sending doctors and other front line workers to help Italy. Remember most countries in Europe people grocery shop daily they have small bar like fridges not like we have over here.

“The age of our patients in hospitals is substantially older - the median is 67, while in China it was 46,” Prof Ricciardi says. “So essentially the age distribution of our patients is squeezed to an older age and this is substantial in increasing the lethality.”

A study in JAMA this week found that almost 40 per cent of infections and 87 per cent of deaths in the country have been in patients over 70 years old.”

“And according to modelling by Imperial College, London the majority of this age group are likely to need critical hospital care - including 80 per cent of 80-somethings ”

No that's deaths. Here's a link that shows every country cases deaths and percents.
The only country the US can compare to is Canada. Our life styles eating habits time zones mirror each other

I looked, I don't see where it says 40% of deaths are age 20 to 59. Where is it?

This pie chart is Italy as of 3/22, cases. In order for it to be as you say about every case in that age group would also have to die.

In Italy the total number of people with the Covid-19 in the age group 70 and up is 40%. Of those 40% 87% have died. The group 20 to 59 years of age that have the virus are at a 43% death rate. The greatest number of people with Covid-19 in Italy fall in the 69 and under 60%

Dr. Birx from the briefing last night has said they have been collecting data straight from the governments around the world. Her exact words, “The average age of mortalities in Italy from this is 85 yrs old.”

Every country (aside from the US) has socialized health care including the ones that are doing quite well with the virus like South Korea. If enough people get sick at the same time, this thing will bring any health care system to its knees. Too many people got sick all at once in Italy.

From what I hear about socialized medicine, I thank God we don’t have it in the US.
I’ve been getting treatment at a major cancer center here in NY for about 6 years now. I’m always amazed at the number of people I encounter there from other countries. I’ve met lots of Canadians and Europeans in the waiting rooms over the years. They don’t speak highly of availability and quality of the healthcare systems in their countries.
My wife still has family in Italy. One side of it is well off enough to come to NY for serious medical stuff. The other side wishes they were.
Met a middle aged guy at a transient marina last summer. We were tied up next to each other. He moved here from Italy about a dozen years ago. He had nothing good to say about the healthcare system in Italy.
He was especially critical of how expensive it was in taxes for employers and citizens there for the “free health care”.
