The "virus" What are your thoughts

You’re an ignorant to assume my reason and my wife’s reason for being on two hospitals in one day had anything to do with my profession.

You sir can go $*uk yourself for that insensitivity and stupidity.

My 17 year old diabetic son had acute diabetic keto acidosis. A life threatening condition.

But I could give two shits what you believe asshat.

I apologize completely. You are 100% right it was insensitive, but I did not know. I will delete my post.

Cuomo knows that he had a budget crisis going in to this with a more than 3 billion dollars Medicaid shortfall problem, municipal hospitals were operating at a loss, dwindling tax revenues from people fleeing high taxes in recent years and a struggling MTA. He also is sharp enough to know not to let any crisis go to waste.
I’d be shocked if he didn’t use this crisis to try to get a pile of money out of the Feds to offset the budget woes he was inevitably facing.
I’m not saying that NY doesn’t have a problem, but I suspect that Cuomo is dramatizing it a bit for his own benefit.

I posted my thoughts about Cuomo Thursday morning. Looks like Schumer might be on the same page......

I hate to make statements that point out hypocrisy, but sometimes I must.

This article is explaining the Democratic Governor of Rhode Island’s justification for stopping New Yorkers from freely entering her state. They must quarantine for two weeks. She is not saying they cannot enter. She is saying they must, by force of arrest and jail, go through proper procedures for public safety. I offer no opinion on this. Just stating her position.

Someone please explain to me how this differs from a Republican President wanting people coming in from Mexico to go through proper, legal procedures. He is not saying nobody can enter from Mexico. He is saying go through a legal process. Due to drugs, human trafficking, in-vaccinated people, etc, it is for public safety. No opinion offered. Just stating his position.

This is one of the best videos I've seen detailing the virus and the current situation. It was made on March 24th, so it's relatively current.

I've been on record advocating for mask use and while some discount it, perhaps coming from one of the lead Docs in a country that is not seeing the exponential growth like the US, it will resonate better.

If we had masks for all our citizens and they knew how to, within reason, wear and discard properly, we likely wouldn't need to take such drastic quarantine measures.

It's in Korean, as they are the nation leading the world in testing, control, and containment. Congrats to their system and the citizens whom all play a roll....

I think it is pretty clear that masks work. Just remember, the "experts" all lied to us.

good interview...thanks for sharing.... yes wear a mask

My observations as of today (Nassau county Long Island) : went to go pick up some food provisions from a local place, curbside pick up , and on my way to the store I passed a house a few blocks from me with three ambulances in front pulling people out on stretchers don’t know what was going on but can only assume with what is currently plaguing our area and might be COVID-19 related . Passed an urgent care as well had an ambulance out in front picking somebody up and transporting them to the hospital with a line out the door of people waiting to get in. I’ve been avoiding the news lately for the gloom and doom but I must say that on social media friends of mine are reporting family members that have passed away ,young and old from this virus and I am just baffled at the reports that I am seeing from friends and it is surreal . So I reached out to family and friends that are working in local hospitals and they are telling me that they are absolutely overrun, my cousin who is a pharmacist at Winthrop told me it is a scary scene. and my friend who’s a vascular surgeon at LIJ said that they are becoming overwhelmed. It’s been three weeks since three homes on my block were quarantined after being confirmed positive for COVID-19 and I believe they have recovered. The last week there have been a lot of ambulances ripping all around my town and it’s making me paranoid. For the last two weeks all gun shops are pretty much sold out of guns and ammo , lines were wrapped around the buildings they are all closed now except for LEO . I think we will see the peak in the next week or so in my area ... I hope and pray . Stay well my friends

@joeyleggz - jezzzus.....I wish I was more surprised...Though still hard to read....This issue speak to relatability....I've lways felt this outbreak will have phases...Denial for some, that changes to reality when it hits the USA...Then more concern and diff phase as people learn that someone they know, knows someone that has succumbed to it...The next phase that really makes it real is when you know someone personally....Unfortunately, it will take getting to that phase for some to act appropriately...

This is sobering news and I believe directly attributable to our culture and lack of PPE (masks) for all citizens....

What are you guy's feelings on reopening parts of the country by Easter? Personally I think that's not doable. Thoughts??

As someone who served in South Korea for 16 months, I'm ashamed of the US's response, and our leaderships initial dragging ass and calling this a HOAX and etc. Having traveled all around South Korea during my stay it's hard to believe that they as a country have done better with this than us, but guess what, they have. Be safe everyone

Very good article, thanks for sharing Boat Guy

Absolutely not! Trump is trying to pander to his "Christian" base by saying that. Many Republicans are urging him to not do that. If he does that he will have blood on his hands. Can we please listen to the PhD's and MD's on when to proceed with the safety of Americans.

For 4 days now I've watched the numbers coming out and up dated every 10 minutes on the cases deaths and recover. Theses are hard numbers not what a politician has decided to say to down play or hype Covid-19. The death rate is 1.7641% as of 4:00pm Sunday. That number has stayed steady on 1.7xxxx%

And....just because I haven't stated this enough....I feel a little vindicated....

Interview George Gao, director-general of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), for 2 months. Last week he responded.

Q: What mistakes are other countries making?

A: The big mistake in the U.S. and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren’t wearing masks. This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role—you’ve got to wear a mask, because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth. Many people have asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections. If they are wearing face masks, it can prevent droplets that carry the virus from escaping and infecting others.

It's delusional to pick a date, regardless of whether it has religious significance for some, and assume the virus will be done/everything's back to normal.

China, Hong Kong, and South Korea did the isolation thing for a solid month; most of the U.S. is only at 2 weeks.

The thing about the virus is it's a matter of life or death. It's Maslow 101. Until cases and deaths start to plateau (or fall), instinct will keep most of us inside and away from others. If my boss called me tomorrow and said I have to come into the office, I'd tell him to [do something] off.

Agreed Boat Guy, Only problem in our country is we can't get masks, or even TP for that mater.... Can you say caught with our pants at our ankles?

I hear this argument a lot.... "Good point on mask, but we can't gt them"

I've heard this outbreak called by leaders, "a war"...If so, then seriously, how hard would it be to re-task some manufacturing for the productions of simple masks...Those machines can crank out millions a day, I've been told and the tooling can't be a big deal. It's a small, simple, form...Further, every citizen would only need to wear when they went out for essentials.

We've had months to ramp up production and change the guidance...I'm on record from day one stating the initial guidance was criminal and would cost lives....Now, it's starting to be reported as such.

Further, I would have discussions with people explaining the importance of wearing a mask and some people's response was, "CDC says they don't help"...Unbelievable

Cases: 139,675
Deaths: 2,436

If not for our leaders and physicians this number at this time right now could have been far far worse. There’s no escaping the consequences of this disease in a country as large as ours.

We have people on this forum I know have lost loved ones. Let’s please be sensitive in our remarks to each other from now on.

I’ll start w myself.

I would restate that as "Confirmed cases" Comparing actual cases (which we don't know) against the deaths will yield an entirely different ratio than comparing confirmed cases against deaths.

For this reason any death rate percentage you hear touted, is absolutely meaningless because we don't know how many cases there actually are, given the extreme dearth of testing.
