Recall Gretchen Whitmer - Michigan

I don't know how it works in other states, but in Texas you have to register for every election absentee. You don't register once and then automatically get sent a ballot for the indefinite future.

On a somewhat related topic, while reading the news today about the number of people who have filed for unemployment a thought crossed my mind (Yeah, unusual for that to happen!).

Do most other "modern" countries of the world have unemployment insurance systems set up like the US does? If you lose your job in Canada, for instance, do you get a stipend from the CA government?

Yes, definitely. I believe every "first world" and lots of other countries have various systems in place for unemployment compensation. Unlike the US, where the system is state-by-state, the central government usually administers the system and makes payments. Also, most other countries require employees, and not just employers, to contribute to the system so it's much more self-sustaining but is effectively a higher tax on both.
In response to the current crisis, most of Europe is paying businesses directly to keep employees on the rolls. They're avoiding the nightmare we are experiencing as the various state systems try to cope. The US is sort of trying to do that but the PPP program being used is quite awkward and doesn't seem to be working out very well. Plus, the parallel policy of increasing unemployment benefits is making lower-paid people reluctant to come back since they actually make more money from unemployment than they did in their previous jobs. That's all going to crash and burn in a few months unless the economy rebounds.

I know it’s old news.... but still funny

She actually said about a 71 year old guy that died driving his golfcart off the end of a washed out road that that is why she wanted the new gas tax ,like the road wouldnt have washed out in a flood,a road that she wouldnt have had on her list to repair anyway.

Actually, at least here in IL, if an employee refuses to come back to work he is no longer eligible for unemployment. They even have a form for employers to fill out. From the entries on the form it looks like they are expecting a big problem.

Umm the mail in ballots go to your city clerks office who runs the elections. So just like at a polling center, they match those to voter rosters and tabulate. It’s done the same. Those ballots are not unsealed until Election Day. Also since they have issued you a ballot, you won’t be able to go to a polling center to vote again. Checks and balances.
If any on this thread is REALLY interested to see how an election works and debunk internet rumors and our presidents lack of knowledge, call your city clerks office and volunteer. They will actually even pay you.
Most wont do this because let’s face it, complaining is easier. LOL

Mail in ballots increase the hidden steps in the voting process, thereby, allowing much more opportunity for fraud, in my opinion.
By having the actual voter physically enter the hall, present a valid government ID to the pollster, the pollster matches the ID to the official roster, the roster is signed in person by the voter, voter casts ballot. There is now a permanent record of the the citizen casting a ballot. That name is now no longer available. If the name appears later in the roster, an independent audit can detect it.

With mail, we blindly get a ballot, who knows fills it out and signs it, and sends it off to who knows? There is no group of pollsters verifying the voter. One small team of conspirators can receive the mailed ballots, open, shred, make an new one, sign it similarly, and file. Easy. Is the same team controlling the internet listing?

If there is say, 2% fraud in mail-in but only 5% of the total vote is mail-in, then the result is overall a small amount(.001). If the fraud is 1% of all the ballots, then that could sway a governor or congressional election.

So sense this thread is really about stupid Governors, riddle me this. The virus is killed by washing with soap and water. What goes in a shower? Soap and water, no? Then why are the showers closed at my marina?

It will be interesting to see if they get much help from employers. There is a natural tendency to stay away from issues regarding former employees, particularly those who have been let go. I suppose there will be some incentive to report so as to justify getting PPP loans forgiven.

Who validated you are actually filling in your ballot? How about the old days when strongmen were watching you vote? So much for secret ballots. All kinds of vote fraud...
If we can pile into a Walmart safely, why can’t we just go to a polling place?

I’m not disputing your knowledge or saying you dont have a good point, but they seem to introducing more potential problems than needed.

Certainly can be the case but we voted this absentee thing in last election. Now we are stuck with it. Personally, I am trying to avoid those public places where you cannot distance yourself or are touching things that everyone else has without sanitizing. The one thing I could
Agree with in this thread is the boating part. Never made sense to me why she did that.

plus now it’s killing me because I can’t get in to JEfferson Beach heated storage to see the potential boat I want to buy lol

I see a cottage industry growing here...hmmm, maybe a good retirement gig for me.
Go around the poor neighborhoods collecting ballots for $50 each in the local elections then sell them to the highest bidder. Damn..FBI is probably already drafting a warrant for me now...gotta go!

Unless your in MN with same day registration. We have a major issue here that the guy in charge, Secretary of State Steve Simon doesn’t seem to want to get to the bottom of, even though that’s his job.
....and yes, we’re one of the states that finds ballots in the trunks of cars. “Creeping while you’re sleeping” Al Franken magically won the race when that happened. Ironically he was the final vote to destroy our healthcare system.
