I plan to remove the windshield to my 1998 Bowrider 210 so that I can have the glass professionally tinted. Inspection shows some type of white silicone sealant between the windshield frame and the cockpit. I'd like to order whatever parts I need prior to pulling the windshield to minimize downtime. Is there some type of adhesive backed, rubberized seal between the windshield frame and the cockpit that is covered by the silicone sealant? As far as the sealant, what type of sealant is suggested? Local window tint companies are charging between $600 and $1K to tint the windows on the boat and will not guarantee the finished product. These same companies will tint the windows off the boat for less than $150 and are more willing to make repeated attempts to stretch the material to match the curve of the glass. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This lol will be my first post here.:) Check the price of a new windshield before you decide to pull it. If something were to go wrong....

I was going to pull mine to re-bed the sealant, until I looked at the cost of replacement.

Looking at maybe 5000 and up. Thinking my bedding actually looked okay.

Between the windshield and the boat is just a simple, foam, strip gasket. The sealant that you see on the outside is just that - a thin bead of sealant. Any decent, UV-rated sealant is fine. Not all boats even use that - many, in fact, do not.

But, as was noted, you need to be EXTREMELY careful. Another thing to think about is that if you ever go out at night it makes harder to see - and it's already hard enough to see at night. I do not know if it's illegal like it is in cars - you may want to check on that.

I'm seconding the "sunglasses" suggestion.

As a Toyota dealership mechanic going on 16 years, I've handled my fair share of glass. I'm very meticulous with my work so.. so long as framing stays intact and holds the glass within- I'm not worried about handling the glass on my end. However.. once I drop off the glass to be tinted.. it will now be out of my hands. For this, I am now worried... As far as wearing sunglasses, I'm mostly wanting the windshield to be tinted cause I like the look of it. I've seen an exact same boat like mine with a tinted windshield and I couldn't get the thought out of my head since then. I'm gonna have to weigh this out to see if I'm gonna proceed. Thanks for giving me another perspective guys. Lazy Daze - I appreciate the information!

It’s not just the cost.... it’s the time for a replacement to be made if it was needed. You could wait many months for it once the order is put in.

I removed the windshield on my 330 DA to get the frame powder coated. It's doable for sure but I think its a project better left for pre or post boating season. Enjoy the boat during the season. Just my 2 cents.

You my friend... just made a lot of sense! I will wait till the off season to get this done.
