The literature said improved gauges, but I couldn’t find anything significant. The big shortcoming for me is the inability to build a Diesel engine page. RM seemed to have focused the one and only engine page on outboard/sterndrive concepts.

I agree its pretty limited and the lack of EGT display was a deal breaker. Maretron was the one solution I found that allowed the addition of transmission pressure and temp, plus EGT and boost...several parameters that are useful in knowing the health of an older boat are now accessible.

Maretron's NMEA 2000 PGN compatibility list is the most comprehensive of all the manufacturers. This is (for me) the main reason it takes so long to program their equipment; that is to scroll through the PGN list for each Maretron end item then select then set up the parameters
For those that don't know, there are two levels of programming done with the Maretron equipment. The first is to program the end items then second to program the display for viewing the end items. For example Dave has the Maretron tank monitors (end items); each of these monitors require programming that is done through the displays or Maretron's PC software. Once the tank monitors are programmed then everything on the NMEA 2000 network sees them as, for example, port fuel tank with a total fuel of X, and remaining fuel of Y, etc (PGN data). Finally, he has to configure the Maretron displays to set up a page or partial page to view the fuel tank data which can be done in several graphical formats. There are many other advanced variables like sample rates and alarms that can also be set. But the bottom line is the data that the Maretron equipment can put on a NMEA 2000 network is quite extensive and that is why I have such an extensive use of Maretron equipment on my boat. Plus it's a tinker's wonder land...
Regarding the Raymarine limitations for engine and systems data display - this is one of the reasons I went with Garmin as setting up an engine monitor screen, for example, was much more extensive in the type of data that could be displayed and arranged.

As an edit I'll add that the Maretron programming isn't complicated or difficult to do; simply follow protocol. Their Owner's manual for programming is over 300 pages long and very comprehensive making setting up the equipment rather user friendly...

Can you confirm Garmin can read PGN 130316 Temperature, Extended Range? I believe this is the PGN most likely used for EGT and I can confirm Raymarine does not support this in their Axiom line or 4" i70s displays.

Maretron has a proprietary for EGT 130823. I haven't confirmed but I suspect that the TMP100 is sending that code and that's what I have the DSM programmed to display. Regardless works well. We'll find out if it works long!:)

So far Maretron has proven to be a very solid choice for this project. While not cheap, they so far have delivered what they promise, and have backed up their products.

When it comes time to replace the Systems Monitor, a RIM module is the way to go.

I cannot and don't believe they do. I've never seen that PGN available on the Garmin MFD's.
 
I just looked at the documentation for the Garmin Gpsmap 7608 I’m using for an engine display. On the table of Nmea2k pages it lists 130316 as receive only (from perspective of gpsmap). I couldn’t find any reference for 130823.

The 76xx can also receive SAE J1939 sentences PGN 65031 SPNs 2433 & 2434 exhaust manifold temperature right & left. I haven’t tried to implement this yet.

My other problem is that Volvo keeps everything on a need to know basis with the customer not needing to know anything. Despite several requests I can’t get a list of either nmea2k or J1939 data that’s exported by the EVC gateway.

Then that Garmin MFD can read EGT as PGN 130316 Temperature- Extended Range. The Maretron TMP100 module can transmit that PGN, but the other PGN 130823 is Maretron proprietary, and like only readable with Maretron displays.

The older display's use the 130312 PGN even though it has been deprecated. Which is why Maretron transmits it.

Great job with all of this. One question - what boost sensor did you use?
