New owner of 2001 Sea Ray 380. Still in learning curve... When I flush the toilet, it literally smells like crap outside of the boat. What should I be doing?

Change your vent filter. It looks like:

Haden, look for more posts on this subject. Some guys figured out how to reuse their filters and just change out the charcoal. There is a small sponge inside that needs to be replaced if you go that route. I find it easier to remove old and (quickly) replace it. M

I will just replace this one, and then repack the old one for next time. I actually remember reading about this now. Does that sound like a good plan? What is the BEST one/brand I can buy?

They are all the same ....just filled with charcoal

If you don't get it wet, it will "never" need to be replaced - how does it get wet? Running at speed in moderate conditions 3/4 or so "full" will usually do it......sometimes is impractical to pump out prior to experiencing these conditions, but do so when you can - also, buy online in advance (shop around) places like WM charge top dollar because when you need one, well, you need one

Very easy to make - it's PVC pipe with fittings, screw on caps and a garden hose adapter on each end. Very cheap and refillable with aquarium charcoal.

The bigger issue is, treating the holding tank. Read through the thread @MonacoMike linked to above.

Wow!!! I great appreciate all the info. I will definitely apply all the wisdom!!

Lots of info on this subject. Do a search. But a quick recap-yes change the filter. But you also need to treat the tank, NOFLEX. There is discussion that the manufacture says to use laundry detergent, but that counteracts the NOFLEX. Also, when I pump out, I will add/spray fresh water down the discharge port to rinse profusely than pump that out. After all this I have no smell at all.

Excellent advise. I will buy some NOFLEX too.

I have used noflex for 3 years and 2 years in the sump.... in the sump it works great with bar soap, liquid soap and shampoo going into it.
I would think Tide with no phosphates and bleach would not harm the eco system in the tank.... I don’t know for sure but sounds feasible
