Smells like Crap outside when flushing the toilet..

Kinda off topic, but are there any other filters I need to change in association with the water. I am aware of cleaning the sump, AC pans, etc. I was just courteous if anyone filters the water entering the boat, or while in use?

Yes just those RV filters you get at Walmart $20 for two

I am using one right now

There is a small filter by the fresh water pump that needs maintenance cleaning.
Don’t forget to clean the aerators on your head and galley faucets.
While I rarely use the dockside water hookup, I do use a “Drinking Water Safe” hose at my home dock for all water needs, and when I fill my fresh water tank I put one of the cheap Walmart Camco RV filters inline between the spigot and hose.
We don’t drink the water straight out of the tap on the boat, but I did start using a small Brita container this season. I’ll fill that from the tap, keep it in the fridge, and use water from it to make ice cubes and coffee.
Convinced myself that between my filtration methods, the extreme cold from freezing cubes and the heat from making coffee, it will all come together to kill off any cooties that might be in the water.
So far, so good. We haven’t gotten sick or grown any strange appendages yet.
I’ll usually dump whatever water remains in my fresh water tank and refill it every week or so too. Not sure if that’s overkill, but it makes me feel like I’m keeping it fresh.

New owner of 2001 Sea Ray 380. Still in learning curve... When I flush the toilet, it literally smells like crap outside of the boat. What should I be doing?

If you don't feel like buying the whole filter thing just change out the carbon filaments inside the tube. It's the same stuff they use in fish tank filter. Walmart sells the stuff in the pet department. Just screw off the end, pour the old pellets out, pour the new carbon pellets, seal it back up and your done. Might need small pieces of plastic screen material to put in the ends so the new pellets stay in the container. It's an easy job. hardest part is just getting the the filter.

Great advise. I have already cleaned the pump filters. Honestly, they we’re clean to begin with. I will definitely be adding a blue inline filter, and I already use the “White” water hose. Learn that mistake as a kid. Was not a good shrimp boil, the shrimp tasted like rubber hose... haha.

I already bought a new filter, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I plan to make the “used” filter a learning filter. I didn’t want to monkey around with the first one. I wanted to have a good starting point, and take a little time to learn the process.

There should be some sort

There should be some sort of filter down stream of you water pump. Check the parts manual for location and part number. What ever it is I'm sure you can find them on line and/or at an rv supply place. Maybe even Walmart. Just stay clear of Marine Max

Good plan

I have used noflex for 3 years and 2 years in the sump.... in the sump it works great with bar soap, liquid soap and shampoo going into it.
I would think Tide with no phosphates and bleach would not harm the eco system in the tank.... I don’t know for sure but sounds feasible

Ya. I believe the Tide specified by Dometic is plain old soap.

Will do. I’m building a check list for this evening.

I see a fair number of filters added to hoses outside of the boat at the hose bibs. That depends on the quality of the water supply, and most are used by owners of larger boats.

I’m going to add one. I’m not overly excited about our city water, plus it can’t hurt. I honestly can’t remember the last time I drank water from tap, but the kids might. Kids are crazy.... haha. I’m not a health nut, I just don’t care for the Chlorine smell/taste our water has.

My since of taste and smell are way more degraded than yours. Just have a rule, don't consume boat water. That includes what comes out of the ice maker. Kind of a rule from stomping around in the down range third world shit holes for so many years.

Hahahahaha!! Great rule!!!

we chlorinate the water system on the boat, we run a quality water filter, and our marina has city water. We use ice from the icemaker all the time for cocktails. That water on the boat is probably cleaner than 99% of the water in the world.

I do not know a single person that coordinates the plumbing system in their home after spending the winter in Florida or vice versa.

I made a water softener with a whole house carbon filter that resides in my dock box. I fill the boats tank and well as wash the boat with soft water and it really helps keeping the water spots out of the showers and my blue hull.
Carpe Diem
