Plan is to hang out in the Thousand Islands for the rest of the week.

taking her south this year?

Just getting cell service again so here are few from Jedediah Island BC over the weekend. We’re currently in Pender Harbour at a marina headed down to Vancouver tomorrow. The island is a provincial marine park with an old homestead from the 1800’s. There are also a bunch of wild goats on the island ..descendants from the ones the Spanish left here in the 1800’s.

Beautiful pictures.....I'm curious about those two long stern lines?? Was it not possible to anchor?

Thank you for starting this thread. It brought my stress levels down and reminded me of why I tolerate the corporate BS.

Thanks! At certain anchorages up here a stern tie is recommended or even required. The anchor is set and then we tie to shore to prevent swing so more boats can get in. Usually done at relatively tight anchorages which was the case here. It also gets deep pretty quick off the bow there. And so it can also be necessary because of depths. We anchored at a spot last season where it dropped off 300ft within 150ft of shore ..so we back in and set the anchor on that shelf and use the stern line to keep pull on the anchor. If we would swing in a spot like that it would surely pull the anchor off the shelf. I don’t have 300 ft of chain ..and it even gets deeper from there. We have an inland fjord around the corner from our marina. It’s over 1000 feet deep in places a few 100 ft from shore.

To finish this post off, we spent 5 days between Clayton and Alexandria Bay. We really missed not being able to visit the Ontario side because in our opinion, much like Niagara Falls, some of the best of the Thousand Islands lies in Canada. We had a relaxing time and it was good to get away on the boat. We also got a little extra treat in that we ran into some great folks at the Clayton Marina that we had met in St Augustine FL in March of '19. They were looping on their 420DA as we were coming back north after our Bahama trip. It never stops amazing us how many people we meet up with from our past travels.
After the Thousand Islands, it was back home again via the Erie Canal system as Covid has the Welland all messed up for recreational travel.
We hadn't been to Boldt Castle in many years so we took advantage of small crowds to visit and glad we did. They have made considerable progress in "finishing" what George Boldt started 120 years ago.

The totally rebuilt O-7 lock on the Oswego River. Like New. They stopped work because of Covid in early spring and by the time they got back to it, this lock was why the Oswego waterway didn't open until August 10th.

Lock E-30 has a resident Great Blue Heron. We have seen him there over the last few years. He waits to spot fish as they are sometimes brought near the surface by the in flowing turbulent water filling the lock.

Rain day. Took a day off from traveling on the canal to loaf around. Visited a craft brewery trying to make a few bucks in Covid times by selling beer out the back door in the parking lot. When the rain got a little heavier, back to the boat to watch the Bills game.

Couple of Ripley's facts.
Fairport Lift Bridge: Only lift bridge in the world that is built on a bias. One end higher than the other, and no two angles throughout the structure are the same. It is right now undergoing rehab. Opened in 1914.

Culvert Road: only place on the Erie Canal system where a road goes under the canal.
