I keep my 230 Bowrider on a lift in a lake slip. Does anyone know what to use to either keep spiders and bugs away or a safe pesticide to kill them? They are very bad this year here in Texas...

We hose down our slip, dock box and pilings with Ortho Home Defense a few times a season.
It helps, but does not take care of all of them.

I was told by some dock folks we boat with to use peppermint oil around the dock. Might investigate that.

So you just spray the perimeter of your boat? do you actually spray any on the boat?

I avoided spraying stuff that I would end up touching alot. One thing that I did spray down well was the bottom of the raydome. the injection mold that Raymarine used ended up making a spider condominium of about 30 or so individual pockets. The first year I had that radar nearly everyone was filled. After spraying it - zero.

I'm a big fan of Permetherin. You can buy it pre mixed as Miss Muffett's Revenge or enough for several years worth off Amazon. Works all season (claim 12 months).

I'm in a covered dock. I spray the entire roof structure above me and I have 0 spider poop/webs. I also wipe some on selected surfaces (I avoid things we touch) on the boat where they might be hiding and it keeps them at bay.

+1 to Ortho Home Defense and when I use it I spray along the edges of the dock, the dock cleats and the dock lines that go from the cleat to cleats on the boat and also the boat's cleats.

I've found a good spraying in the spring and another mid-summer was enough to keep my boat free of spiders, and that's saying something because the boat in the slip next to me is like a HUGE spider hotel. It hasn't moved or been attended to in over 5 years.

I spray our entire boat exterior with Ortho BugbGone using a sprayer that attaches to a garden hose. Do the dock and pilings at the same time about twice a year. This stuff is for use on vegetable gardens. Because it attaches to a hose I can soak everything in about 10 minutes. We never have spiders anywhere on the dock or boat. Usually do it on a Wednesday as the boat is washed on Fridays. By Friday every formally living insect has moved to the Great beyond.

Guys, the label sometimes says do not use this product on or around creeks, streams, lakes, and rivers.Just don’t use more than you need or in non intended ways which kill fish or limit their reproduction.

Use the appropriate treatment.

You need a beer, a fly swatter and a flash light. Drink your beer wait for dark you know where the webs are... Spiders come out at night and sit in the webs.... I do this maybe once a week at the beginning of the season and now get the odd spider.

Not just fish, the entire estuary has been in jeopardy for quite some time.

sbw1, I'm inclined to agree with those who have said not to apply the poison in the manner you are doing it.

Not to take a holier than thou position on this but I've always been VERY careful not to let any of my spray get into the water. A tiny bit always does, but I'd guesstimate that when I'd give my boat a good spraying in the spring less than 1/4 cup ends up in the water.

Thanks for all the info everyone.. If there ever is a spider in my toilet I would see it very fast due to the lack of a shadow ;) I'm going to try Permetherin, something has to be done they are everywhere right now..

On our jetboat on last trip mosquitos were bad. We had a spider build a web and we watched it fill up. It was better than Raid for keeping mosquitos away. In 1969 I was at a radar station in the north. We had thousands of dragon flies and no biting bugs. Someone ordered the station sprayed. Dragon flies were gone and biting bugs were bad.
