Have a Hurley 3 system installed (nice) but given limited platform depth the dink on the platform only leaves 4"- 6" of walkway across the stern platform, thinking about the Hurley extension $1700 & basically a 4' x 4' unit bolted to the platform which would give an additional 6" clearance but at the expense of a huge substrate left bolted to my platform . Another possibility is a platform extension but again big $$$. Who has had success with alternative ideas, thinking this might be my off season project this year. I don't carry the dink all the time kayaks are our favorite when staying on the hook which also strap down to the Hurley.

I struggled with this for over a year...and never came up with anything I was happy with... I now pull up onto the swim platform a 310 with a 10hp Soft bottom and tie it to the cleats and be done with it

I recently added the Hurley H30 as well. Love it. As you can see, I have about the same amount of space between the dinghy and transom when it’s up. It is adequate to get into the storage compartment, stow fenders, access shore power, etc. Not sure what the extra space the extension plate Hurley offers would give you. Aside from the cost, it’s a bit of an eyesore hanging off the back when dinghy is not on. I imagine it puts a whole more stress on the fiberglass moving all the weight aft further as well. Just my $.02...

Chief Ed, is you dinghy the Inmar 320R-YS? If so, how do you like it. I have been looking at them as I like the size and weight of this setup.

Thanks for the input, I too am concerned about the extension plate looking like a piece of excess shit. That's quite a dink to pull up with the manual winch or did you get the 3.0+ ? (electric) I'm carrying a 10' HB with an 8hp Yamaha & its a chore to winch up more due to the limited space & having to swing it back parallel to the platform.

Hi Brent,

Yep, that’s it. Been really happy with it so far. We’ve had it for about 6 months thus far. It’s a 2018 that we bought as “slightly used”. A lot nicer to cruise around than a tiller steered dinghy. Definitely not quite to the build quality of Zodiac or AB, but the price, size, and weight are perfect. Tubes hold air perfectly, no water leaks, etc...

Most importantly, the wife absolutely loves it. She takes her friends out through the bay all of the time....

We use the hand winch. It’s not too bad at all. The only place it feels heavy at all is once you get it up out of the water and start to pivot it. Can do it by myself, but having a helping hand is a good thing. If my wife is around, she does the winch and I help push/hold the dinghy to pivot it. Very easy with two people.

I didn’t want to worry about the electric winch not being charged, failing, etc. That’s why I ordered the hand winch. Figured I’d order the electric one if need be. Don’t see a need thus far.

The folks at Hurley warned me the the H3O was rated to 400 Lbs and this dinghy was slightly over (412 with motor and fuel). The + version wouldn’t fit on our swimstep according to their CAD guy, so they recommended we go with this one. Again, very happy with how it works so far...

Also, I had a large backing plate fabricated to mount on the underside of the swimstep (in the aft of the engine room). Used a tube of 4200, fender washers, and lock nuts. We’ve been back and forth to Catalina (150 miles R/T) twice now and it rides very solid back there. Backing plate might be overkill, but there’s virtually no way the mount is falling off now without taking the whole transom with it!

I don't think that is necessary at all. The 6 inches is fine...can easily walk the length of the swim platform with the dinghy on board.
