Hello everyone,
The Mrs. and I recently acquired a '92 300DA. It had sat in the PO's backyard for four years without ever being launched, so it's been at least that long since it was in the water. We checked the u-joints and replaced the water pumps for good measure, fired-up the engines (they sound just fine), then backed it into the lake, only to find the shift cable bellows were leaking. That's the one thing I didn't think to check!
Since the outdrives had to come back off anyway, we decided to take them down to bare metal and give them a fresh coat of paint. They look to have sat in salt water for quite a while, and, based on the amount of corrosion seen, I'd guess the anodes were probably never replaced. Everything else looks to be in pretty good shape, so we're hoping we can launch after the Spring thaw.
Here she is with a couple of friends and my wife:

Tater, welcome CSR. You didn't put where you live but I'm guessing from your pic that you might be in the northern part of ID. Some nice boating up there. We've boated on some of the lakes from C d'A north and love them.

Sorry I can't help you with the info you're looking for but will offer one suggestion--when you put the boat on the stands don't forget to chain the stands together so they can't flip out and drop the boat. Each pair of stands should have a chain between them for your safety and the boat's safety.

Oh, and we all like to see photos of the boat, where you use it, etc. If you're going to do some extensive work on her we'd like to see pics of that also.

Good call! The boat's currently near Bayview on the Pend Oreille lake. We're hoping to be able to retire there soon.

No stands at this point. Since the belly looks to be in good condition, all of my work will be done while on the trailer.

Here's a sample of what I'm dealing with:

...and, after welding on the new skeg:

Did you make that weld? It’s darn near perfect! Looks like you have a great project!

Bayview is a very cool little town. We rented a cabin just uphill from the marina there and took our 13' Whaler from there to the hotel at Sand Point. We had lunch and a cocktail, then headed back to Bayview. That was one of the 3 lakes we hit on that trip.

It was nice of the marina in Sand Point to name it after my first wife!

Here's the Navy's super secret submarine testing base on the lake.

Nice place to retire.

I wish I could take credit for that! I did all the prep work, but my buddy insisted that he do the actual weld. Since it's his TIG welder, I felt it only prudent to acquiesce. However, he did allow me to buy lunch for his wife and him.

By the way, those skegs are available from Amazon for $25. It's a perfect match for the older Alpha outdrives, and it saves your weld shop a bunch of prep time if trying to make one from scratch. Are we allowed to post links here from Amazon and the like?

Sure, no problem, post away.

Big trailer. Spend a bit on it to ensure all works well and it is structurally sound. We have a 21 foot jetboat and the trailer had not been used in a few years. Took it in and got things looked at. The breaks were not working and wheel bearings needed work.

Absolutely! An earlier PO had already converted the brakes to electric, and we pulled all six hubs for a quick looky-loo before ever moving it. So far, it traversed the 50 miles at 65-70 mph without a hitch. Once the boat is in the water and parked in a slip, we'll be focusing on trailer upgrades. The bunkers are trashed.

Good to see you here as well. If we are going to keep running into each other, maybe we should meet down around Hood River sometime.:D

Definitely. I have a friend who recently bought into a condo along the Oregon coast, so the first big excursion is to launch from Lewiston, run down to the Colombia, into the Pacific, and down the coast to his place. 'Figure about 600 miles. That's going to be a lot of fuel! If it happens, I'll give you a heads-up and we can break bread.

How did you know I was a fat kid that likes to eat? :D

We are 20 miles from Lincoln City. Our closest place to put in for coastal fun is Newport. And their slip regs are crazy. Garibaldi there is no extra slips. I am planning a trip down to Newport and check the few marina's there to see if I can find a good place for a few days at a time.

Let us know. We can plan something good.

Nader, when you get to the mouth of the Snake where it empties into the Columbia turn upstream and you can use transient moorage at the Port of Kennewick marina for cheap.

Then, with all that money you will have saved you can buy the first round at the bar at the top of the docks. I'll get the next couple. That is, assuming that people are allowed to live like normal people again and don't have to abide by the COVID restrictions.

Not today. That nasty Bi*%h shut this state down again. Sounds bad this time. Trying to order lumber for a customers build and there is no answer at the yard to get the order finalized. All bars and eateries are shut down completely this time. I have a feeling it will be down for quite some time this time.

You're on! We go through the Tri-Cities when heading north, so let's get together this Spring.
