Most of us are likely using our phones to take pictures to share on this site. The picture upload tool seems to have a mind of its own on whether your picture will be right side up, sideways or upside down. Here's a documented test of importing various shots.

Test one Portrait photo with the phone held right side up
IMG_5484.JPG
Test two Landscape photo with the phone turned 90 CCW (top of phone to the left)
wide angle of cockpit.JPG
Test three Landscape photo with the phone turned 90 CW (top of phone to the right)
IMG_1611.jpg
Test four Portrait photo with the phone turned 180 degrees (top of phone down)
IMG_1612.jpg

Test five turn test one 90 CW
IMG_5484 turned clockwise.JPG
Test six turn test one 90 CCW
IMG_5484.JPG
Starting to see a pattern....... Only shoot landscape with the top to the left
One more test. Use an editor to rotate test 1 CW

Anyone have any tips for inserting a portrait picture to CSR?

It worked top of camera to the left and the rotation is correct Thank you

Just crop them slightly on your phone like Carter said... just a glitch with the forum software

I’m guessing the cropping causes the iPhone to add (or update) the EXIF attributes in the image file (includes orientation, GPS location, aperture settings, etc) such that the forum software then properly orients the photo.

It’s relatively trivial to dump the EXIF data of a photo—diff’ing pre and post edit would show which attributes are actually modified and thus the one(s) resulting in the proper display of the photo.

I'll let you do that while I am resizing my photos.... ;-)

I've found rotating them, all the way around 360º (on the computer anyway) does it as well. May work on the phone.
