350 HP Hyper Electric Marine Outboard

The whole electric propulsion industry is all about so called well meaning liberal environmentalists making themselves feel good using false statistics to justify their means. Electric storage batteries require extreme amounts of natural resources to produce and the wind and solar power sources also use huge amounts of resources that are not environmentally friendly and difficult or impossible to recycle. There are new far more cheaper and efficient means to produce power using updated/safe nuclear technology but the same liberals stand in the way.

The tree huggers ran our manufacturing out of the United States and now it's biting them in the rear end because China and the rest that are doing the manufacturing now have no regulations on pollution of their Power Plants.

Anything built in the EU is manufactured according to environmental standards that exceed ours. So your statement is false in that regard. As for China, you are absolutely correct there are no standards and its frightening.

But before you start blaming a political party, look around your own household. Do you have a US made TV? Washing machine? Dish washer? Car? hair dryer? coffee maker? computer? There are many causes for the export of jobs, starting with US corporations incentivized to maximize corporate quarterly profits all the way down to every American consumer who prizes getting cheap stuff cheap, and contributed to making Sam Walton's family billionaires. Yeah, we have no choice now, but 30 years ago we did, and America resoundingly voted for cheap throw away over well made and durable.

Unions forced corporations to outsource American manufacturing....it wasn’t like corporations had a choice when China dangled the carrot

And yet Europe with its extensive unionized labor force still is able to maintain a strong manufacturing base with products in demand worldwide.

I agree with much of what you have said but I can't recall many (if any) European products I have ever purchased. Cars are the one products Europe exports but I wouldn't own one as I believe they are over engineered and not as reliable and cheap to maintain as most Japanese and some American cars. I would make the point that most of Europe gets there electric power from nuclear as they don't give in to the wack job anti nuclear morons like we do in the US.

I think the motor is pretty cool. Yes, battery storage and charging would be a major issue especially for weekenders. The quietness is what I appreciate. Maybe we’ll have a viable solution in 30 years.

On one of our trips north we met people in a boat similar to ours. He had a 10 foot fiberglass dingy with a large eclectic trolling motor and a 1/2 size D size battery that was charged when the main engines were on. He said it was good for 4 hours at full speed.

You forgot they are also leaders in wind generation and wind generation technology.

Pharmaceuticals
Machinery & tools
aircraft & aerospace
Commercially competitive cargo & passenger ships
Material handling equipment
Commercial trucks and tractors
Automobiles & other motor vehicles
Automotive components,

In point of fact the US imports more from the EU than it exports.

Henry,

I'm lost on the point you are trying to make. The dynamics of trade between the US and other countries is always out of balance. The US trade deficit with China is 3x greater than with the EU. Based on your line of reasoning .....they would be the "best of the best" because we buy so much from them.

I don't believe in woke innovation. Germany has declared the billions that they spent on their wind turbines to be a failure. The taxpayers pay for the misguided political activism of Global Warming/Climate Change (or anything else you want to call it).

Where reasonable people can agree.....activism drives people to make stupid decisions "supported by settled science". Under Obama he gave almost $500m to Solyndra to "revolutionize solar panels in the US". It failed miserably and the US taxpayers were stuck with another woke failure.

I don't have a beef with an electric outboard. It might find a niche somewhere. By the way the US invented electric trolling motors:

The electric trolling motor was invented by O.G. Schmidt in 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota, when he took a starter motor from a Ford Model A, added a flexible shaft, and a propeller.

Also......their website hyperelectricmarine.com still doesn't load..........;)

Seems to work now.

We got sidetracked into a why the US has lost jobs to China. My point being besides other reasons, the US corporate love affair with quarterly earnings and the American Consumer's addiction to the cheapest possible products were leading causes. Then a counter was made that US unionization and green initiatives were the primary causes, points that do not make any rational economic sense given Europe continues to succeed on a global basis with manufactured products while having a more stringent union and environmental situation. Look blaming the environmentalists and liberals for manufacturing being moved to China is short sighted. The fact is in addition to the libs and tree huggers, those of us who like our dividend checks and YOY appreciation, as well as those who love to get the cheapest product possible, are just as much to blame. And anyone wishing to address returning manufacturing to the US has to recognize all of the causes.

If you can load the site on another device it’s worth a look. Really interesting pictures of the build.

You definitely don’t want any leaks in the cowling.

How is it cooled? What about submersion? Do you get electrocuted if your boat sinks?

What kind of boat is it pushing? 350 HP pushing a 12' pontoon would be fast. Pushing a 320 Sundancer, what kind of torque does it really get?

It’s pushing a 20 something tri toon to over 60 mph according to the web site.
