Well it was a lot easier than I thought
14 gallons new cat oil in new cat filters
Total time
1.2 hrs
Cat dealer only had gallons gave me 5 gallon pail price
I like handling the gallons it just took a while to fill

Fuel
Replaced the racor primaries 10 micron
Easy no spill replaced the oring and seal
Refilled with clean diesel
15 min a filter
Cat spin ons took about 15 min
Mostly filling with fresh clean fuel
Again no mess
Turned fuel valves back on
Per frank webster 1/2 throttle with hand ready
Port first fired right off 1-3 sec gargle then perfect
Stbd same way

Total cost was $450
All cat product

was quoted from $2200-3100 from cat dealer
But that included impellers and zincs
I did zincs last month for $90 bucks

trannys are next

on the air seps can they be cleaned ? Process
Not sure the brand

Really enjoyed the project
I do have the reverso oil change system

all my oil will be taken to the city of ft Myers yacht basin , they have a waste fuel / dump tank

buy the walker cleaning kit. I couldn’t believe how much cleaner mine looked after cleaning and oiling. Clean the breather too. I actually replaced it, it has been a while.

I actually pulled the exhaust tube off the port side to get my oil filter off, it was on tight and I couldn’t get it loose. Other than that filter and fluid changes are a joy on this boat. Mostly thanks to the reverso

i also have to do my tranny fluid this spring, already bought the fluid and and extra set of screens. I think @dtfeld recommended a nice set of drain plugs to replace the trans drains with to assist with future changes.

If your going to be doing your own Transmissions, put on EZ oil valves with a short pc of hose...make tranny fluid change a 15 minute process

do you remember the thread size? I'm just going to order mine now or I'll forget again

I would like more info on what you are using for valves please.

I ordered EZ-202 1/2”-14 NPT, with a 90 deg elbow on amazon I have a write up on here somewhere. I think in the 400/410 thread.

Made the hardest job on the boat the easiest. I put a 18” hose with a hose barb/thread that connects to my oil extractor pump.

perfect
How hard are the screens to remove
Mine are hidden under the starters pretty good
5.5 mm Allen ?

You probably need to know about the gear filters. They are stainless steel filter mesh and are reusable; flush them and reinstall; they must install in the correct orientation so take note when removing. The cover to access them however is a poor design and needs new O-rings every time it's serviced. Essentially, the cover bolt squeezes two metal plates together and extrudes the o-ring to a tight fit in the gear case. The O-ring and all surfaces it touches need to be squeaky clean so the o-ring has friction to hold the cover in place. Like I said, not a very good design. The gear cases should be under a slight vacuum after running and cooling down; if not something is leaking (like that filter cover) and needs to be fixed. The reason that filter cover is so important is the gear oil pump pulls the ATF in the case sump up through the filter putting that area under the cover at negative pressure and consequently if that cover leaks air the the gear will not be properly lubricated and the clutches can slip and be damaged.
Regarding the engine oil - there is no need to pay the premium for Cat oil; Rotella T1 is just fine and meets the Cat specifications. Never, however, use multi-viscosity oils in the 3116 or 3126 engines. Definitely always use Cat oil and fuel filters; If unavailable Fleetguard is a suitable alternative. But, however, your man card is at risk if those filters are not Yellow Cat. I keep a complete spare set of engine and generator filters as well as about a dozen Racor filter elements on the boat at all times; but I do take the boat to remote locatons.
The coolant in the engines needs servicing also. Cat ELC will break down after about 7 years and start to leave a film on surfaces that can build up and hinder heat transfer. So drain the coolant, flush the engines, and in this case use Cat ELC.
Lastly, there are five little plastic check valves in the injection pump that can cause a host of performance problems. These little check valves, which are easy to change and inexpensive, will tend to gum up and not check the fuel flow causing erratic idle conditions as well as other issues. Your mechanic should know about these and if never changed they should be changed out.
Oh, and then that ever so worrisome fuel solenoid relay; get several and keep as spares. That $8 Bosch relay can render an engine useless....

Not hard at all. Loosen the screw and rotate the top in the direction arrow indicates. The whole assembly might come out, or you might have to fish the filter out.

This assembly is on the suction side, so make sure the o rings are in good shape or new, and all the sealing surfaces are clean...no little paint chips.

To tighten it back up, the top should have a tab that turns about 30 degrees. This squeezes the o ring and holds it all in place. First time you’ll be like is it tight enough?

It will be.

Since its been a while check with Frank W on the filter microns.I remember years ago for some reason I had the incorrect micron and the motors would stall periodically.

Tell me more about these. I have a HUGE bill with Caterpillar trying to chase a fuel knock and a surging idle. I decided to take matters into my own hands now since they haven’t fixed anything. I’ll make another thread on that. They think my aftercooler is plugged up by cylinder 1 which is causing it to over fuel.

somewhere in this site I have a diagram that specifically shows those check valves. Back in 2015 or 2016 maybe...
But, do you have MUI (Mechanical Unit Injection) or HEUI (electronic); the check valves are specific to the MUI.

regarding the ZF filters. I bought two new ones so I can swap them and clean everytime I change lube. The kit came with two O-rings, I assume the big one is what you guys are referring to on the cap?

the new filter also looks symmetrical but Supposed to have a one way fit,I’m wondering if I bought the right part...
