Keep Track of Rising Prices

Wow, I pay $23.65 for a 30 pack of bud light. I would have to get a job just to buy beer in boating season.
You pay less for Canadian beer than we pay for Canadian beer. Its been like that for eons. And you are right Blueone, even our very conservative Ontario Premier can't privatize the Province owned LCBO because it makes huge amounts of money that would have to be replaced by more visible taxes.

This is where my inner republican comes out. Government is needed to run some things, but not everything. And the most important thing is that Governments run efficiently. Bloated governments lead to bloated numbers of government "lifetime" jobs that lead to high taxes. My wife's mother worked for most of her career in procurement in a Provincial ministry job. I am a professional that works about 50 hrs a week when I am not busy and 60 to 70 hrs a week when I am busy, and I have for 35 plus years. I make good money and pay enormous taxes. I still recall talking with my M.I.L. one year in April about how busy I was. I won't get the quote right, but she said something like this:

"I know what you mean. I have been crazy busy for the past month. All we do is work all day and the only time we get to relax is during breaks, over lunch, and after we leave at 4:30. And in March its really busy, because all of the budgets expire on March 31st so all of the departments rush their spending to make sure that they don't underspend."

A lot of overtime? I asked...... knowing the answer....

So I guess I am totally wrong my about $45 a pack?

Nope:

Cigarettes in Australia are some of the most expensive in the world. Find out how much a pack of cigarettes will cost you at Coles, Woolworths, or your local convenience store.

  • a packet of 35 cigarettes costs $41.95

Getting the Ontario government to let go of Liquor sales is like getting washington to accept term limits
When Alberta privatized liquor stores they kept the distribution system. They still make the same amount per bottle plus they saved the cost of the government owned and operated stores. Liquor stores are now three types. High end with knowable people, Big Box Grocery store with good selection and Ma and Pop with limited selection located in strip moles near residential area. Alberta has wide selection and convenience. We live in a residential area and have a Ma and Pop store a block and half away. In paper today Royal Reserve 750 $17.99, Bacardi 750 $18.99, Smirrnoff Vodka 1.4 $29.99, Likuid Vodka 750 $9.99.

I do not smoke but those prices are ridiculous. We winter in Panama except for this year. You do not see may smokers but I think a pack of cigarettes' is around $5 US. In Canada $12 to $15

I was at Harris Teeter yesterday and bananas are up to $1.99 per lb. they were 69 cents a few months ago.

Gas in Watertown NY (40 miles away) $2.50- 2.65/gal. USD.
Gas in Gananoque Ont. $1.12/litre = $4.23/gal. CDN. The price here has gone up 49.14 cents/gal in the last three weeks in Ontario. Part of that increase is due to our Prime Ministers commitment to the Paris Accord..read carbon tax.

The prices, through systematic legislated excise (tax) hikes, are meant to discourage smoking in this country.

There's also an exchange rate difference in our currencies that would explain part of the price away.

Southern WV - regular gas $2.69.9
Virginia - regular $2.48.9

Key difference in Canada & Australia is a taxpayer funded National health system. Smoking causes cancer and heart disease and is a major contributor to the cost of healthcare. Taxing cigarettes is a bit of a "user pay" system. I think instead of health warnings, cigarette packs in Canada should say something like:
"If you smoke a pack a day, you will have paid approximately $200,000 in excise taxes by the time you get cancer or heart attack treatment in hospital, which will only partially cover the cost of your treatments. So don't complain about the price you just paid for this pack of smokes".

Gas prices have increased by $1 in less than a month. Before inauguration $1.79. Now $2.65.

$2.99 in Penna today for regular, diesel highway @ $3.25, i see $4.00/gal by summer here in Penna

Smokers die younger thus they do not collect social benefits as long. When I see smokers I thank them for smoking as I know they will receive little retirement benefits. This will result in more for us non smokers. HAHA

We are up $0.25 in the last two weeks. Just wait until the summer blends hit. We're definitely over $3 this summer.

Yep. I'm a little north of Pittsburgh and it's 2.69 here and 3.19 for diesel. I'm guessing over $4 by summer and over $6 or 7 by next summer if sleepy Joe gets his way. Couple that with rigs shutting down due to weather and it will probably go higher in the next week or so. I think oil was over $60/bbl the other day. I'm just glad I work from home and my wife drives a 30MPG Subaru. My truck gets 12 MPG (2500 6.4 Hemi).

My son is out near Altoona in Kinzers, PA but he doesn't pay for his gas so has no idea how much it is out there. He is a safety coordinator on the Atlantic Coast Pipeline right now. He was in Minnesota on the Enbridge pipeline a few months ago. He uses his own truck (also a 2018 2500 Ram 6.4 Hemi). He has about 75,000 miles on it already but has never paid for a penny of his fuel in it, thankfully...lol. He drives from site to site doing safety inspections and reports. A couple weeks ago he said he fueled up in the morning then had to fuel up again before the end of the day and never left the area...lol

Ended up not taking the boat for that "last run" for the season so I ended up in storage with almost full tanks. Guess I'll be glad about that when I splash in April. Luckily I have always worked from home and my wife works 2 miles away- all our fuel funds go to toys but they are all thirsty pigs, none of them get better than 10 MPGs.....

US crude oil production is down 40% due to Texas weather. Some refineries are shut down. Pipeline from Canada was cancelled. $3 gas may become $6 gas. Now add Green government factor. Electric boats powered by solar in a snow storm are coming to a marina near us.

We do all of our grocery shopping at Kroger. We usually end up getting 2 to 3 dollars off per gallon every month. You can only use $1 at a time for up to 35 gallons. We will drive both cars to the pump. This is what we paid last April. 39.9 cents a gallon

I paid $1.49 a gallon last week.

We have a store around here that does that. One time I paid .03/gallon but then next time I went my amount off was higher than the price so they made me pay .10/gallon. They said they put a policy in place that .10 was the lowest they could go. They have a 30 gallon limit.

Sounds unfair to me, if a smoker gets killed crossing the street his family ought to get a big rebate at least. How about all the lard asses sitting at desks, high blood pressure, overweight...how do they get punished?
