I noticed this on mine. When the engine is off, it shows 1,000 rpm.

Looking at pictures online, it seems a lot of boats from the 90s have this same issue.

Is this fixable, or is it probably faulty (which is fine)....just didn't know if there's a quick fix.

it happens to mine if I turn the engine off by switching off the breaker first instead of key switch

If it's only the tach,... it's a GM thing.

How does it work with the engine ON? I'm not usually all that worried about how the tach works when the engine is off, you know? ;) You could clean the contacts (and then exercise the selector switch)... "maybe" it will help. Otherwise, it is what it is.

Actually I was reading online and I think it reads at the last RMP you shut the engine off.....if you turn key to battery only, then turn it off, it goes back to zero.

I'm considered a rookie, so once I get back to my boat I'll see if this works......all shrink-wrapped for now.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. Serious. It’s normal. Least of your boat issues.

Mine does the exact same thing. After I turn the engine off I always turn the key back to "On" and then "Off" to drop the tachometer needle to zero. I know it doesn't matter, but it just bothers me seeing the needle at 1000 rpm.
