Well, I guess its hopeless. The irony of this poll going sideways........

My ask then of the mods is to enforce keeping the BS to the Holding Tank and if a thread goes sideways, move it there. Maybe when COVID is behind us and all us northern boaters are in the water, civility in the main forums will be the norm again. And if any of you find your way up to the southern Georgian Bay area, let me know. I will gladly share a few drinks and not talk politics. We will have far more in common than differences. I guarantee it. (And our beer is better ;))

Perhaps it is a moment of reflection when 70% of the answers so far indicate members would like to keep things the way that they are. I don't have a problem with people not liking things but that changes pretty quickly in today's cancel culture. It isn't that cancel culture is an insult or offensive.....it is a reflection of a vocal minority who take it upon themselves to correct the majority.

Why?

I believe most of the cancel culture is simply misguided thinking compounded by too much social media and the China Virus. In regards to politics.....that is part of boating. Fuel prices, banning certain engines, dredging, fishing, wealth taxes, additional new yacht taxes, Homeland Security and Customs are either controlled or influenced directly by politics.

Politics influences boating far more than boating influences politics. Most politicians could care less about recreational boaters. To many cancel politicians we represent: "privileged people with wealth that care nothing for the environment". Unless boaters are informed and take action......these cancel politicians will win the day.

I'm in a similar boat (pun intended) as a few others. I'm not on any social media so hear alot of the 'news' here. And I have added to some of the political posting and back and forths but in other topic I talk to the same person I just had a major political disagreement with like we were best friends. At least for me, what happens in The Bilge stays in The Bilge (or sometimes the Tiki Bar). Outside of that we are still 'friends'.

And yes, I agree cancel culture is destroying this country

What I mean by hopeless is keeping CSR to what it is intended. And you guys continuing to debate cancel culture in a thread about keeping the main part of CSR dealing with boating is hilariously ironic. In the end the owners of CSR get to decide what they want the forum to be. So this will be good feedback to their decision.

so was your poll.

Why did you post this in the "General Discussion" section? Maybe the mods should move it to the "ClubSeaRay.comSuggestions" http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?forums/clubsearay-com-suggestions.19/ where it belongs. There are points on both sides of this issue, but I select a section to read and browse for the intended purpose. In the "General Discussion" section I'm here to discuss and learn about "boating." Posting a topic with a poll like this brings the politics that you want eliminated right here in the "boating" area.

I get where you're coming from, I can be interested in a few current events comments about the price of fuel or boating taxes, what the local government is doing to one of the lakes or the ramps. But I don't want to wade thru 20 back and forth zingers or rants on a thread that a relative newby asked seriously "How did you buy your first boat...". The entire thread doesn't belong in the Holding Tank. But too many regular threads go sideways in the middle of a question, has to be a turn off for a lot of newbys. This is childish behavior.

I went so far as to ask the CSR Admins in the feature area if there was a way to "Ignore" an entire thread or a forum. There is not one really. But I did find you can turn off global notification and then "watch" just specific forums and threads. Which is what I do now. I "watch" just those forums that the subject interest me. It has worked fairly well. But it means I may not see questions that I might be able to help with. That's the down side.

I agree that one thread was an extreme, but there have been others. Free speech is a bitch ain't it? But its way better than the alternative! I guess to keep my blood pressure in check, I will stay out of the Holding Tank (till next winter!)

To get the attention of the people that did wade in. And the method to my madness was to deliberately put it into the main forum because I expected it may get testy and would be a perfect example of what the point of my new thread and "vote" was.

So mission accomplished and a good discussion of the pros and cons. No malice intended, just looking for a way to keep CSR the best forum I have ever been a part of.

So you knowingly violated the forum rules. You should go to the penalty box. :)

Where does the line get drawn? Does CSR go the route of The Hull Truth and moderate itself into the ground? Send members to banned camp for perceived offenses?

I don’t care for some of the content here but there are plenty of topics and most are non political.

We are all adults here so let’s wear our grownup pants and respect each other by agreeing to disagree on some topics.

Now if a poster politicizes a non political thread, threatens or intimidates other members, and it goes off the rails then there is a process to delete the offensive post. To do this the offending post needs to be reported, analyzed, and action is then taken.

So what did you think your thread and poll was really about? People today who want to change things because it in someway offends their sensitive personalities by hoping to involve others is the definition of cancel culture whether you like it or not.

So, claiming that you have been successful at proving something when you used the exact methods that you criticize is a bit rich.

Just stay out of the political discussions and you won't be offended.

I agree it should not happen but thats the point I guess there are always some otherwise very intelligent people who are either childish or narcissistic. They just can’t stop.

I dont want the CSR Admins to be posting cops most would just quit the moderators are volunteers.

Why I pointed to the various tools available I would rather be in control of who I ignore

I do try to only follow anything related to boating here, as that's the only reason I am a member. I actually I haven't seen anything political in quite a while, maybe because I don't have notifications set for any threads I'm not interested in. I wish I could unfollow some of the stuff I see and hear at the marina at times, but everyone has the right to express themselves. Hence anchoring is awesome! My suggestion is that you click to unfollow as soon as something goes where you don't want it to, and thanks to the moderators for moving those other posts to other places when they catch them.

Personally, I think you should just let me and Blueone moderate the entire site! :)
