I have a 2002 380DA and the engine is running okay with no load but it struggles when there is a load placed on it. It also smells like raw gas. It’s not blowing black smoke.
I want to try to change the plugs to start with but I can’t get the right socket on them. is there a special socket or some other tricks to get them out?

Thanks,
Ray

Gas or diesel? I just changed my plugs out for a kohler 5ekd gas generator and used a standard spark plug socket without issue.

I assume with the black smoke reference yours may be diesel?

IIRC there's only 2 spark plug socket sizes for most -- 5/8 and 13/16 but don't quote me on that

try some deep metrics, some lawn equipment can have tight access, something will fit and it wont be specific to that engine

I have a kohler 5e and from memory requires a 3/4 socket.
Additionally, consider going with a spark plug 1 step hotter for better performance.
I believe the spec calls for NGK BMR6A and I use BMR5A gapped to .025. Also stay with NGK if possible because they seem to last longer and perform better. Change every 50 hours at least.

If by "can't get the right socket on them" you mean that you know the correct size but the area is too tight to get the socket onto the plug... grind the socket wall thinner.

I got the plugs changed. The socket size is 13/16 thin wall with a a wobble extension.
The plugs were shot and wasn’t firing on 3 cylinders. New plugs and it ran smooth but there’s gas in the oil so that’s getting changed.

With gas in the oil, you going to rebuilt the carb?
