Dinghy Davit

sb - I like that idea. How long would you say yours are roughly? Would a 12" x 36" piece make one? Where did you buy your plastic? Thank you.

I believe mine are about 40". I bought a 5'x2' piece of 1" starboard figuring I could cut 3 times (if I messed 1 up). Found at a local plastic supplier.

Here's a pic of 1

Does anyone know if the 2" stainless screws supplied with the weaver quick disconnects are long enough for mounting on a 2006 340 Sundancer? I also purchased stainless backing plates for more strength.

I'm pretty sure they are. My 300 swim platform should be pretty close to yours. I can't remember if they came with stainless lock nuts but you'll def want to use those. Instead of backing plates, I added some really big washers, starting small and working up 3-4 layers. Worked great, solid as a rock.

Thanks. I got them installed today and the screws are plenty long enough even with the backing plates. Went with these Davits I found from a guy selling on eBay.

pierpressure - how do you like the davits? I found that same guy and since I have a hard bottom he cut me a special set to march my hull. I have not used them ye but they seem solid.

I installed them last weekend but have not run the boat yet with the dinghy mounted. They are vey well made, light, adjustable and based on my experience with them so far I am satisfied.

Should have a chance to take to take the boat out with the dinghy on a short cruise in a couple weeks and will update with my experience.

Has anyone ever had trouble removing the davit/clip assembly that slides into the Weaver Davits? The pins will not come out. They seem to rotate freely, but I have tried a pretty significant amount of vertical pull, also twisting while pulling. I have never had them out since I bought the boat last year. Do those pins have a little spring loaded ball in them at the bottom to keep them in? I wonder if it's totally corroded in the ball out position or something. I tried hitting it with some spray to try to lubricate the ball/spring. (But I don't really even know if that's the mechanism?)

Ideas? I don't want to put much more force on it, but I'd also like to avoid removing the mounts, because they are already sealed and through bolted to a backing plate. I was thinking of using a different davit system that would slide into the Weaver receivers, but I can't get the old ones out...

Mine are super tight, I haven't had to remove them so they've been in since I bought them. I sprayed them with some fluid film last time I was at the boat, we will see.

Finally had a chance to try my new davits out...all I can say is I'm extremely pleased with how well they appear to work. I have not installed the tie downs yet so no ride. But they are solid and I like how I can still keep my boat backed in my slip.

They were pretty good. For the price I like how they operated. The ends were plastic and I cracked one but not a big deal. I am happy with them.

I drew up plans for a davit that will allow me to have the dink launch and retrieve from the swim platform

Im trying to figure out how best attach it to the underside of my swim platform.
My goal is to attach two 2' x 1.5" SS square tubes to the underside of the swim platform (that a smaller tube slides into) without having any hardware or minimal hardware showing on the top of the swim platform. I'm afraid that just using a recessed screw or recessed bolt head will pull through the platform. I don't want a tripping hazard or anything that will interfere with the platform when the davit is not on the boat.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I was thinking the exact same thing. That way there is nothing to unscrew or have hangingone out off of the back of the boat when you don't want it there

It appears my boat will be selling soon and the new owner does not want the davits. So I will be selling these. Only used one season and they worked awesome. Make me an offer.

Wet Dogggg I am interested in your davits but don't want to insult you with an offer. I have know idea what you have in them. I have a similar set in the makings right now. I'm just making them cheap right now to see if I like them and was going to have them made out of stainless and starboard over the winter if they work right. Yours would save me a lot of time. Do you know how far it is from the water to the top of your platform? Can you let me know what you would like to get for them? It may be worth it for me to just purchase yours and skip finishing mine. Thanks

PM sent.
