Guidelines for going to and from the Bahamas

Randy,

I have been watching the widns and seas in the Gulf Stream. They are looking pretty ominous. This weekend are predicted to be 6 feet or more.

Due you think they will settle down by the third week of May? I know this is an open question, but what has been the past?

Randy,

That's an excellent guide. Thanks for taking the time for putting it together and sharing.

Right now, and I mean Wednesday 5/1, the seas are flat. check out http://www.pbcgov.com/erm/beachcams.htm My experience is as follows....

May and early June - 50/50 chance of good seas (3 feet or less). Last Memorial Day was no problem. the weather seems to be on a 4-6 day cycle during this period. You will experience winds for a few days then calm for a few.
June through September - 70/30 (good to bad). biggest problem here is a) hurricanes b) thunderstorms
Other months - 40/60. winter time is tough. too many cold fronts or northerly wind days. once you get over, great to be in the Bahamas! Almost all areas are shallow (seas don't build) or protected

the NOAA forecast for the next few days...........

Thanks... I hope our timing works out. I'll let you know how it goes.

By the way, should we take bicycles to use on the islands?

if you have room, YES!. The Abacos have some larger islands and a bike is great there. We purchased folding motorized bikes and they were wonderful.

Randy--
This is GREAT; thanks much for posting! Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to go over to the Bahamas one of these days by boat as it is on my bucket list. Thanks again for sharing.

I just came across your guidelines and I need to print out the latest copy you have. I had planned a trip this year to Bimini but it fell thru. I three 27' boats lined up. Will try again next year. Send me a copy at leeverm@AOL.com. Thanks for all your efforts it looks great.

Since Photobucket recently pulled the rug out from everybody by requiring a $400 annual fee to host pics to websites like this, can the OP or somebody else upload the images from the original post to a different site and reset the links?
