So year after year I have washed out and saved the various little and medium size plastic containers for the damp rid. It allows me to simply purchase the refills at home depot and save a few bucks. So where the heck are they? Arrrrgh! Can't find them anywhere. Poof! Gone. Disappeared. Hate when this happens.

So does anyone have any suggestions on how to rig a homemade container? Needs to allow water to drain through and accumulate under the basket that holds the damp rid stuff.

Perfect solution for recycling my old tights! Brilliant, you must be a Yankee! I am going to use that idea in my basement workshop when I go off to Florida for 4 months. That should keep the mildew at bay over here in my damp dark English converted coal cellar! Cheers, Lady Caroline of Mangotsfield

“BORROW”?????

Is mama upset when you return the nylons in the spring??

:mad::mad:

Isn't it better if the water is trapped below the damp rid material so it does not simply re-evaporate into the air in the cabin? If just hanging over a bucket this will not be the case.

Well, I am sort of a Yankee by birth but more importantly, I'm a current day cheapskate and try to find solutions to problems that don't cost fortune.

As to Jack's comment about trapping the water, put some plastic wrap over the pail, push it down a bit in the middle so any water runs down the slope, then cut a hole in the center!

Espos, yeah, she probably would be. But what she doesn't know won't hurt her. It may end up hurting me, but some times that can be a little fun.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I am so looking forward to getting my Sea Ray 340 down to Daytona Beach this year where I can start the long overdue cosmetic work that should have been done last year but Matthew caused my having to winterize her in New England. Looks like, weather permitting, she will get down there in the next week or so. I have been boat less much too long.

Use 8 or 16 oz plastic deli/sour cream/cottage cheese/yogurt container--make slits in bottom and 1/2 inch to 1 inch up sides.
Nest into 24 or 32 oz size container with similar diameter at top edge.

We never run out of the larger containers thanks to First Mate's love of take-out soup from his favorite Asian restaurants.

Sounds right but unfortunately we did not have such containers handy so I bit the bullet and bought some new ones since I was heading to the boat. Oh well, got em cheap at Walmart so now I just have extra refill for years to come. Thanks for the reply.

To save money, you can buy calcium chloride driveway ice melt by the 20 pound bag and fill containers and put around the boat. Damp Rid is just good old cacl2. Remember it in the dessicator jars in chem lab in high school? Damp Rid charges a premium to out it in little bags for us. Just be sure to store the surplus in sealed air tight containers.

This!
I put it in throwaway food storage containers (half full) scattered around the boat and in the spring, snap on the lids and it's dumpster bound.
