Garmin GPSMAP 840XS Blowout - Just $439, was $1499

I would love to get one of these newer units.

I currently have a Garmin GPSMAP 421. My unit also has the SD card for the SW Caribbean maps in it too. Would that card be able to be used in this new unit too? Also, I'm wondering if I would have to replace the existing power cord and swivel base that it bolts to in order to fit this newer model?

This unit would use the same card. You would have to replace the power cord and bracket with the one that comes with the 840xs.

Great! Thanks a bunch! Based on reviews this looks like a great deal on a fantastic unit for my boat use!

Anyway to confirm if this unit will control my fusion head unit via nmea 2000? I went to fusion site but it isn't listed. Another forum thread says it works.

Ordered. I found the info on Garmin's site and this unit will control a Fusion head unit. Thanks Jim!

Yes, it will control a Fusion head unit. We have installed that combo plenty of times. Thank for the order!

Got mine purchased too!

What transducer would you recommend with this unit? Do you sell those as well? Combo deal with this unit and proper transducer?

If I replace the OEM thru-hull transducer that came on my 2003 270 Sundeck with a newer one to use with this new Chirp unit will all the info still show up on my Smartcraft SC1000 system monitor? Is there a Y cable or splitter of some kind or how would I get information in both places? The Smartcraft can show me depth, speed, fuel burn and fuel range along with other engine functions.

I purchased the Garmin 840xs unit to replace what the previous owner installed which is a Garmin 421 unit which can also show speed, depth, maps, etc. I don't know where it gets its information from and do not know if it is connected to a separate transducer (Maybe in-hull?) and can't check it because I am away from the boat on vacation. I would like to make sure I purchase the correct transducer and any additional cables or interfaces needed to take home with me as I can't get them on my island.

By boating usage is some trolling in 80'-1000', some deep bottom fishing in maybe 600'-800' and shallow water warnings when I take the kids snorkeling and venture to new shallow areas that I haven't been to before. Which transducer would be best for my usage and also take advantage of the Chirp and clearvu features of this unit? Thx.

Anybody know the size hole of the OEM transducer? I was looking at some new transducers in the store today but they looked bigger than my OEM one....Like maybe 3 1/8"?

Not sure of the exact size, but on my 98' 370, when I upgraded electronics - a new transducer was part of the upgrade. It's diameter was twice that of the original transducer it replaced - and it was "awkward" standing there watching a guy with a huge sawzall drill out a great big hole using the original skinny one as a guidance point.

Your 840 can use the same ducer your 421 used with a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter box like this - https://www.boemarine.com/products/...ock-adapter-f-gsd-24-only?variant=22361305671

Your Smartcraft likely has its own transducer

Thanks for the response.

Is there a cable that allows the OEM Smartcraft system to share the data feed with this new 840xs unit if I replace the OEM transducer with a newer Chirp + clearvu type?....or is it just easier to install a separate thru-hull Chirp transducer for this new unit?

Thanks but I think that I would like to use the new features the 840xs has like Chirp and ClearVu. I emailed BOE and Chris's advice for how I use my boat was to just get the GT15M-IH for $177 so I don't have to drill another hole in the bottom.

I am about to purchase. My old plotter is Furuno circa 1999/2000. I do not have radar and would eventually would like to add this as well. I am not sure my old transducer will work [I am terrible with electronics]. My dead rise is 17°. What transducer should I use?
thanks,
Regards,
Dave
