The first place I ever destroyed a set of props was coming through hurricane pass on a high tide.

I would do everything I could to avoid it.

On a similar note -

There is a small shoal just after you turn toward Caladesi. You will note it when your depth finder starts moving. I strongly suggest you pull into neutral and coast over it.

We go to caladesi at least twice a year with our 420AC drawing 36”

I don’t think I’ll venture thru Hurricane Pass, little research has yielded mostly bad experiences.

Sounds I should be good with our little 260 for Caladesi.

Thank you

Today will see if I can catch something!

If you’re running outside in the gulf the easiest way is to cut in through Clearwater and go that direction. The inlet at Clearwater is a great inlet.

Was a nice day today....after little early fishing....then downtown St Petersburg, and of course Fish Tales!

I vote Clearwater pass. Very straight forward.

After the first bridge you run up to the ICW head north. After you clear the bridge across the ICW then you are back on plane the rest of the way up where you turn in.

I am heading out to Egmont Key on Saturday. Plan is to anchor on the SE side of the island.
If it is super calm, we may go to the west side.

might see ya out there... or Passage for more entertainment

If the marine weather forecast is correct, 5k East winds, then early afternoon 5k south winds, then 5k west winds late in the afternoon. Inland water smooth, hope that holds, but I will probably be at Bunces pass, so pretty protected.

Seems wknd will be great, too bad I can’t go out this wknd due to work. Enjoy!

ooo ooo change of plans... just locked down 2 nights at Caladesi State Park.. used to go as a kid with family.. picking up a couple thermacells, hopefully work! ...but with power will be in the AC!

Loved our trip last year to Caledesi. I’m sure you are aware, but for others reading along, Make sure you are inside at dusk and dawn. And keep the cabin door closed at those times. The noseeums were killing us the last time we were there. On the beach with a 10knot wind and we were fine, but back in the protected cove, we had to retreat until they did.

Never found anything that stops noseeums. Coated in DEET and they still get through. I will try these items next time.

yep.. bought 2 Thermacells to try plus fresh deep woods 40 deet

thanks for advice on cabin doors. im a native Floridian but i despise skeeters and no-sees!! will motor right on outta there if its bad...

will be our first time tied up with shore power overnight...

will post pics and report...

Did not make it out to Egmont. Stayed in the Bay due to a later start. Had a nice day off Fantasy Island, friends came along in their 240 Sundeck and rafted up.

Caladesi Report:
pulled in Friday about 6:30.. just a few boats
nice facility, nice docks, power, etc
beach is a close walk
stayed through to sunday morning, sat night was more overnighters
not too many skeeters but there were noseeums! mostly dusk and dawn, had no breeze
covered in Off, bought the thermacells seemed to help some. put by door to keep bugs out when opening... later night time and day time was okay
ran AC the whole time.. was 1st time on shore power.. was so nice.. except condensate, under stair pumps must be failing.. carpet got soaked.. so thats my week project to fix!
was a great time!
pics to come..
