Mosquito Control

Mix Blue Dawn, epsom salts, and stale beer.... Cheap stale beer, and water. Sit out in your underwear and enjoy the hot humid evenings. No bites. No bugs. Lasts 80 days. Cost is probably about 14 cents.

Everything I have...... but I might have to borrow a beer off of my boat neighbors. ;)

I used to be an avid hunter-specifically bow hunting for deer in Ga. Never had much of a problem here with them. I went to Maine for several years bear hunting the last week in August. I had never seen anything like the mosquitoes on the coast of Maine in late summer. About 12 years ago, a new gadget came out-the Thermocell. Worked like a dream. Don’t hunt much anymore, but still have the Thermocell for the deck. Uses a small butane cylinder and a little pad soaked in something. Gives off very little smell and would work fantastic on boat. Gets warm, but not really hot.

Google it and see what you think!

I had linked to one in my 1st post...... BB&B has them for $25.

Might have to pick one up and give it a try.

Thanks for saying it worked.

We use Thermacell units. They work great with no smell. Also use the mosquito coils in a holder that hangs if they are really bad.

Interested.. What are the operating costs of these units? Often out for several days plus and curious. The head nets are a pita.

Once again this site cost me money . I picked up the Thermacell at Lowe's for under $15 on sale. Hope it works as well as the reviews say - I hate gnats and mosquitos at the boat.

Themacell has one that I just purchased called the Backpacker. You can use a 16 oz butane canister and it will last 390hours. At the end of the season, it is compact enough to store. You will just need to purchase the strips. I have 3 and we love them in MN/WI.

Let me know how it works for the green flies.

Changing the cockpit lights to amber helps keep bugs away from the boat ... or maybe its that they're attracted to the white lights.

I can attest that they work great. I usually have a couple going at the same time. In N.WI, the Mosquitos can carry you away at dusk during Summer. You can see them trying to penetrate the Thermacell perimeter, but they start getting dizzy and fly out.

I used mine Saturday evening and only got bitten once right at the start.

I spent most of my time on deck watch TV/Computer and I had zero bugs around my screen.

I only had a few big bugs come flying by but did not bother.

Now if it would keep the spiders away......
