Ive tried purchasing a less expensive sensors on amazon/eBay and never had any luck with them. I've always ended up spending more money and having to buy the OEM mercruiser part anyway.
Before purchasing our 240, my wife and I looked at the 260 and the difference between cabins is pretty minimal. I believe the cabin height on the 260 may have been an inch or so taller.

I was able to remove the bellhousing pretty easily. I have it off and I'm currently working on cleaning it up. The paint was peeling in places and there was light corrosion starting to build up around the pivot points. I've sanded it down and am working on repainting.
