I have done the same thing as you did. My storage wants the batteries unhooked. I did not want to mess with that hatch without the lift attached. I am sure the hatch is very heavy. I do not know how or even if they unhooked the batteries. I don't plan on going back till spring.

I had the same problem on my 280. I tried a few different things off from Amazon but I was not able to find anything that would last even one year. Over time the lid will rub a line into the base of the swim platform.
You might want to check one more thing before you change tach. It might be hard to get your hour meter to the same hour after the change.
I think you may have to get it from a searay dealer to keep the same hours
