I had the same problem with my westerbeke. Tried everything mentenioned above with no luck. Eventully took the carb off and had my marina send it out to be rebuilt. Runs perfect now. Much quiter with no sheen or soot.
Did most of you take an online course or an in person one? I would prefer an in person one but the availability of classes isn’t agreeing with my schedule. Any thoughts on online testing?

My gas Westerbeke 7.0 is putting out a lot of black soot from the exhaust. Do you think it could be just the plugs needing to be changed? Any ideas where to start? I usually do my own maintenance but will need to find a tiny mechanic to change the plugs
