Lots of rain forecast for So.Nevada for the next few days due to hurricane off the pacific coast. At this time yesterday it was 103° and stupid humid, right now its 66° and im loving it. No boat this weekend due to storms so going to our place in the high desert mountains if the roads are not...
I wouldn't take it that way. I ask a lot of questions from as many sources as I can. There is a lot of good info on dipstick measurements and what others do for oil changes I can use moving foward so thanks again all for the info.
Just wanted to close this thread out. Talked to a few old boat mechanics and they said when they would change oil in these old 454 mags using dipstick pumpout method they would add 4 quarts, start engine, shut off, let oil settle and then fill to correct level on dipstick. They would use this...
When I pulled the dipstick prior to the oil change the level was well into the dipstick part number, about two to three inches above the full mark. I drained 6 quarts out, was all I could get with the hand pump and put dipstick back in, pulled it again where it showed no oil on the dipstick. I...
I see that now. Naturally the other sticker with the engine serial number wore off long ago. Going to the boat tomorrow morning and will look for the serial number on the block and will see if I can access the oil pan drain bolt.
I found on boats.net 14607 dipstick was used on 454 engines and my engine serial number, OB810406 falls in between the serial numbers listed. Seloc manual calls for between 5 and 7 quarts for the 454MAG, this is a little frustrating. Even at 5 quarts id be well over the full mark.
l do not have a manual, its a 1987 so doubtful Sea Ray will still have it. I will do some searching though as I'd like to know for sure.
Edit, I have a Sealoc manual. Now where the hell did I put it?
Just pulled the head off my buddys starboard engine in his house boat. 1975ish 165 straight six. Cracked the head bolts, then loosened them and the head lifted off the block by itself, gasket came off in one piece too. Gotta get it back together for 4th of July. Hope yours is not a cluster and...
