Full internal cooling systems mercruiser 4.3MPI

Will, I agree with Gary. If you operate that boat in salt water, you NEED to haul it out and flush it after use. Either on the rack or a lift. Leaving it in the water with any kind of cooling kit will kill it. Now, as for the cooling kit..... ABSOLUTELY get one! Especially if it's a freshwater...

Scoflaw, Thanks much... by chance would you have a link to that stainless pin? Not sure how I'd search for it. Thx.

    Replacing Steering Pin

Have a 280 Sundance (twin 4.3 Brave 1) and suspect similar models are the same. There's a steering pin behind the engines that controls the steering and is corroding. Have bee told that both the engines and outdrives must be pulled to fix. Is this true?

Fell off bow and hit by prop

Absolutely NOT! If she can't hand someone a line from INSIDE the boat, then my docking job was not done right. If wind or current is strong enough where throwing a line is the only way, then I throw the line, NO ONE ELSE! I really don't understand the captain that sits back and drives the boat...

    Forward facing sonar?

A few comments.... I research all three options for smaller boats for forward scanners. Simrad, Garmin and Echo Pilot. Overall, gut feeling the Echo Pilot 2D is the best. Their cheaper version "may" not get the job done and the upscale 3D version is $10K and not affordable for a small boat...

    Switch Panel going haywire!

Another question.... After talking with SeaRay support, they say there's a connection block to the generator from the panel, to supply power to the blower. And that block is a source of failure and can be bypassed. Tech said it's behind the instrument panel, which I can't find. The wires from...

    Switch Panel going haywire!

Yes, SeaRay has made some screwups and the panel was one. I'll never have a boat with that again. that hatch breaker qualifies for a Darwin award! Well, my partner found both left and right panels and bought them. Not cheap. Like to have spares so the boat has minimal downtime, especially in...

    Switch Panel going haywire!

Ya, that's my understanding, but a bit vague on how it works. Overall, I'm not a fan of touch pads and in favor of switches which are MUCH easier to deal with. I'm gonna call my Merc dealer to see if they can help with aftermarket part numbers.

    Switch Panel going haywire!

Kevin, Who sells them? I check with Sea Ray a while ago and they said they didn't have them and don't support them anymore. I know they are used on a LOT of boats, SeaRay and others. Thx.

    Switch Panel going haywire!

The electrical pad for lights, stereo, horn etc. is going haywire. It's part no. 1718618 Description: MODULE, ELEC SWPAD S-CRUISER STBD CNVX RV2 What is doing is that sometimes a switch doesn't work, then I push the next switch ant the first one works. The lights quit when I pushed the stereo...

    Leak in outdrive lift hose.

OK, All, I have a leak in the outdrive lift hose that goes from the pump reservoir to the outdrive. The leak is right at the point where it goes from the engine compartment through the transom to the outdrive. How can one fix this. access is very tight?

Oil leak on a 3.4 Merc timing cover

It's leaking about a quart in ~8 hours or so, but don't have an exact handle on that. Yes, pulling the engine is a real PITA and expensive.

Oil leak on a 3.4 Merc timing cover

All, I believe I have a leak on the timing cover on my 280 Dancer, 4.3 Merc engine. Looks like it's a bitch to change. Has anyone done this? My mechanic says pull the engine, but looks like it could be changed in place, perhaps with some wiggling. There's a flange on the cover that makes it...
