I think I have too much prop

Sorry that it's taken me a while to get back on the forum, but I've been traveling and didn't have time to spend on my computer. I appreciate what each of you suggested. Now that the weather is looking good in Northern CA I'll try to get the boat out again and do some experimenting. The...

    Tachometer setting

I like the idea of checking the dealer web site to see if it gives me the right setting. Thanks

    Tachometer setting

Thanks Boatboy, I'll try changing the settings, but 4C was where it was previously and it showed 2,000 RPM when idling, so I don't think that was the correct setting.

    Tachometer setting

I took my Sea Ray 176 out today for a trial run. I have the 3.0 Alpha One . At idle the tach registered right around 600 RPM, which I believe is correct. With myself (200 lbs) and my friend (170) on board at almost wide open throttle the speedometer showed 48 MPH and the tachometer only...

Can you tell me what this is ?

Dennis, being in California I hesitate to even use a horn. Road rage isn't limited to asphalt.

Can you tell me what this is ?

Thanks all. I recognized the navigation light (very obvious), and had an idea that the chrome cover to the left was a horn, but it didn't work. After tightening a few electrical connections the horn now works and it's obvious where it is. Thanks all. I'm not totally obtuse, but haven't had...

Can you tell me what this is ?

Can anyone tell me what the chrome cover is on the left side of this picture? I checked the owners manual and can't find an explanation.

    gas shock for engine cover

I went with the 40 lb shock and it seems to be what was needed.

    gas shock for engine cover

Thanks Woody. 40 seems like a lot, but if that's what's called for that's what I'll go with.

    gas shock for engine cover

Does anyone know what the pressure is for the shock that holds the engine cover up? I mistakenly ordered the shock with 40 lbs of pressure that that seems way too much.Outfitters offers 10, 20, 30 and 40 lb units.

    Another question

I'm sorry for asking so many questions, but I'm back into boating after many years being out, and my memory is terrible, so I'm back to learning all over again. My engine hatch cover was missing one of the shocks that hold it up and I discovered why when I found that the top bracket that the...

    06215 weekender sliding door

Just a question from way out in left field, but can you just remove those screws and replace them with slightly larger screws? And if so, would you consider using lock tight? I know on motorcycles with high frequency vibration lock tight is our friend.

Thanks Bill, I'll keep that in mind.

I think I have too much prop

Jim and Scott, thanks both for your information. It's always good to hear from those with vase experience and consider what they've discovered. Back in the 80's when I did a lot of boating (mostly waterskiing) I found an old Johnson 75 hp. The big old 4 cylinder engine. It had thrown a rod...

I think I have too much prop

I found a mechanic with great reviews. He thinks he can take a look at my boat in about a week. I asked him to check everything over, change fluids and let me know if anything else needs adjustment or repair. I just want to start with a good running engine that I have full confidence in...
