The captain doesn't relinquish control of his/her boat and is always responsible for the safety of the boat and crew, even when a pilot is onboard. If the pilot suggested they go full-astern when power came back on, the captain would still be responsible to know that the bow was going to move...
Mine was an '86 with a rotten plywood transom, it leaked constantly from the swim platform thru-bolts, it was way too heavy to be towing with my S10 Blazer and I detonated the alpha drive on it one night towing a buddy barefooting. I was in college...I learned many things while I owned that...
Interesting question but how many people have actually owned one of each and can objectively compare? Probably not a whole lot.

There's a video out there somewhere showing the boat clearly lose power twice before hitting the bridge. Imagine being the harbor pilot onboard that thing....ughh...
And what would you even do in that case with total power loss? I wonder if they can even drop anchors at that point.
