Hi all. Northern boy here looking into moving south. My wife and I just got back from a trip to see my new niece in Tampa. While we were down there, we checked out some houses and we seem to be drawn to the Lakewood Ranch area. Along with house shopping comes marina shopping. We stopped and checked out Twin Dolphin which was pretty nice. We also drove past Regatta Pointe marina. Riveria Dunes also appears to be an option. But they are all in the same vicinity.

Are there any marinas in the Sarasota area...maybe by the airport? That seems like it would be a shorter drive from Lakewood Ranch.

Any feedback or opinions is appreciated.

We spent a month at Riviera Dunes last year at this time. Great place & much more sheltered than all the others. Nice pools (one is adults only) & the restaurant is great, often w/live music. Compared to Twin Dolphin, Riviera Dunes is easier to get around in when there is a stiff wind. It seems there are more live-aboards at RD compared with TD, and all the RD folks we met were friendly & fun.

We are in the process of doing the same. Have been looking in Lakewood Ranch as well. I am putting the boat at Marina Jacks. It's pricey but it's a great location. There is always something going on there. Short walk to restaurants etc. It'll be our downtown condo.

Do you know anything about the Yacht Clubs? I think there's 3 that I noticed:
Sarasota Yacht Club
Bradenton Yacht Club
Bird Key Yacht Club

Just curious how hard it is to get in, if there's a long wait list for slips, etc. I made some phone calls but haven't heard back.
