Dense fog in the middle of the lake today. Frankfort is getting socked in this evening after a beautiful sunny day in the 70's.

We were going to take a ride until we looked out past the break wall - solid fog banks that continued to roll in until mid afternoon yesterday. Couldn't see Wind Point Lighthouse or the Reef light

Visibility was less than a few hundred feet just north of Point Betsy on the way to Leland. We left Frankfort in sun and a cloud bank rolled in later. By the time we reached Leland visibility was zero. Could see the mouth of the harbor when we were within 100 feet. Sun came out, burned off the fog and it was very hot and humid.

That kind of weather is when you're really happy your boat is equipped with radar and you know how to use it.
Here are two photos I took a while back. In this one I'm sitting about 50 yards off an inlet that's about 100' across, moving forward at idle speed watching the inlet on the radar.

Here I'm about 50' from the inlet. You can see a small tree on the bank that's just upstream from the opening.

Here's the radar image of that first photo. Just another fun day on the water.

These two shots are of the harbor as fog was just starting to burn off and of the sunset seen from our slip that night.

Wow gofirstclass I have radar but I know I wouldn't leave the dock in that..Big respect
GG, I didn't leave the dock in that. I was cruising from my dock to that opening to the bay when I was enveloped in the fog about 1/2 mile from the opening. That being said, I use my radar enough to know how it works and how to interpret what I'm seeing on the screen. It's a VERY important tool to have on a boat.

Here are pix shot July 25 leaving Frankfort around 10:30AM. Bright sunshine at the Jacobsons slip. By the time we reached the outer harbor visibility was under an 1/8th of a mile. You can see part of the top of the north light but not the south light. As soon as we cleared the light, nothing but clouds for the next 15 miles.
