So decided to go after Christmas day for first time with boat to Keys. Was going to try Skip Jack for a wet slip but have seen some poor reviews. Mostly the rooms for which we plan on staying on the boat so not sure it matters.

Any recommendations on where to get a slip? Also trailering and need ramp and truck/trailer storage..

Thanks in advance for some direction...

Faro Blanco or Hawks Cay - Hawks Cay has a ramp right at the resort, just need to check and see if the docks have been rebuilt yet - the resort was hit hard by the last storm - I believe there is a public ramp near faro blanco, but I have no other info

Hawks Cay offers more amenities and is a true resort. Multiple pools and a salt water lagoon. Resort property is outstanding, but the docks in the marina were pretty bad last time I was there "pre-hurricane". Bad enough that someone fell through when a rotten plank broke. No idea if they have repaired or rebuilt the Marina - or its status open or closed. In the past they had a ramp and parking for trailers.

Faro Blanco is newer docks (very nice docks in fact). Overall we think it has a great feel. There is a Hyatt Place that is part of the property. Don't expect resort amenities. 1 restaurant (which has very good food), 1 bar, 1 pool. You can motor right outside the breakwater and see wonderful sunsets. Also security in the Marathon area can be a concern. The local Coast Guard and FL Wildlife keeps their boats in the same lagoon. They are in and out all hours of the day, so have never heard of any security issues there.

Both are viable options - really driven by what is important to you. They are close enough that you could spend a night at both - traveling by water.

All that said we prefer Faro Blanco much more than Hawks Cay. We are coming into Faro on Dec 30 and staying till Jan 3 or so. Then will start up the west coast working our way to Clearwater.

I would also second the Faro Blanco location. In addition to the above comments, there are other restaurants close by, a West Marine within walking distance and while a short taxi ride away a grocery store. FYI it is on the bay side if that makes a difference.

We've stayed at Hawks Cay (Duck Key) and it is a isolated resort. If you don't want to eat there or need provisions there is nothing close by (you'd have to travel to Marathon). And it is on the Ocean side and a bit more exposed to weather.

awesome responses! Looks like I will call Faro tomorrow! ..late decision, hope there is a slip

Thank you!

Slip locked in 12/26-29

Looking forward to it!

Now I need Santa to bring my new drone early ;)
