Show off your dock

Correct 90% of the time we’re rafted/or on a mooring ball or anchored somewhere we use marinas maybe 2x a year for our long trip. We may sit on the boat at our home slip and have a few drinks.

We all have these fascinating differences. Anchoring out is not done on the south end of Lake Michigan, a severe storm could wreck even a big boat with little warning due to their pop-up ability that cannot be tracked. Some areas north have some protected areas to anchor but locals would not typically use them. A 60DA was destroyed at our harbor entrance in 2017.

I already replied but just to add, ours is a much smaller marina compared to you guys but most on the Ohio river around here are. We have about 50 boats from about 15' to i think the largest is a new 2017 350DA. Being smaller its a pretty tight knit group. We have a few parties a year, a pavilion with a TV and fridge. A garage full of tools we can borrow, ice maker, fire pit, and a bunch of gas grills to use. At night we sit around the fire pit and play cornhole or just hang out. Several will drink way too much then go to bed on their boat....lol. We are also in a smaller pool between locks so when we do go out we usually all end up in the same spot and raft off. some will go to Pittsburgh (about 25 miles and through 2 locks) and hang out for the weekend right next to Heinz field. We haven't made that trip yet but with the newer boat that is more comfortable and more amenities we hope to try that this summer

The Google Car caught me at me dock this summer. It’s a piece of property with 50’ length of bulkhead and 25’ from the canal to the street. I own it so I have electric, water, a 4’ x 8’ shed to keep my boat junk in, and a smaller Rubbermaid vertical storage shed that I set up to keep a backup fridge in.

A few more shots from a few years ago with my old boat at my dock:

Curb to boat in ten steps . Got to love that.

View attachment 62952 Nothing to show off here they do have a pool but in 4 years I’ve never seen it. All we have is a dock box. We go to the boat leave for the day, night, weekend, come back and go home. I have no use for amenties at the marina I’m there to use my boat. Not to mention it’s a PITA to load the boat it’s a long haul from the truck to the boat I hate it. The arrow is our boat

If that is where I think it is, your marina use to be a home heating oil business. Can't see the whole name on the deli but it was Surfside. Skated at the pond and played little league and then later softball. Friends had their boats at Knutson's which I believe is called something else now. Didn't they move to further down the harbor?

Oh My! Can you walk across that ice?

I dunno MM, the lake wasn't responsible for this boats destruction. The better message that could be gotten from this incident is to not allow shore power cords to foul your props and disable your vessel.

I believe your correct although I don’t live in the neighborhood I’m not sure about the past. Knutson is located in the corner next to what used to be called “cocos” now Prime restaurant.

Fake News. Hit bottom going in the harbor.

I ran into the owners son yesterday, and he said his Dad and a couple of friends left Chicago and someone forgot to stow the shore power cord. When they came off plane it got tangled in at least one of the props. The boat ended up 3/4 or more under water, and is considered a total loss.

Not much to show about my dock. The empty slip to the left in the pic is mine.

This was my old slip, same marina. My 280DA is right of the yellow boat.

Believe what and whom you like... That was the early rumor.

MM
I was thinking the same thing. "Remember to press that button on the cablemaster, or you'll sink and destroy a $700,000 yacht..." (and risk your lives)
Heard it was not working was the reason the cables were on the platform.

MM
I was believing you MM, now I'll just believe the owners son.

FWIW, I think I do remember another boat that was damaged bad or sunk right in your area while in some bigger waves and pounding bottom.

This might be the one I recall, https://www.harborcountry-news.com/...cle_217700a0-c27e-5798-a0df-9188d34cca6d.html

Great thread! 360 slip marina on a small lake in Indiana. 45 minutes from my house makes it nice. We almost always anchor out for the weekend but have great friends on the dock we socialize with all year.

Nice deep lake as I remember, it has been a long time since I was there.

Here is our humble abode. I agree in Texas covered is king! It’s funny how it’s hard to find a picture of the dock. We have a refrigerator and table as well.

I lived (grew up) there from '68 to '77. Knutson's used to occupy the area from the boat ramps to Rte.110. They actually back then owned most of the property around the harbor. No restaurants along the waterfront back then. Closest was across the street. Harbor Inn.

Ours is at the house. The savings in slip fee pays the boat payment. We have the Slide Moor system that allows the boat to ride up and down with the tides and boat wakes with no spring lines or fenders needed. It allows us to have a smaller and less costly dock, too. My avatar is of our boat at the dock.

Also a very cool setup. I'd miss our dock parties though.
