2019 Lake Michigan Rendezvous

Are there any for sure deets yet?

i just got my sea ray in mid december. will have to learn how to use it before i attempt a great lake! but this does sound like a lot of fun!

Based on the posts, home ports, and PM's it seems that Holland would be well logistically located for the most members. I am contacting them about slip space on the weekend of July 27th and 28th, with check-in the 26th

You probably already considered this exact thing but I wanted to mention it - Holland will likely be easy from a slip booking standpoint but it will have the least amount of "stuff to do" of all the ports in the area. Great for a raft-up or as a home base for transit to other area ports but it'll will be pretty uninspiring if the crew is looking for off-boat things to do in the area.

Saugatuck and South Haven would be infinitely more active and entertaining but probably pretty hard to book large numbers of slips. Grand Haven is also within range? That's the first weekend of Coast Guard Festival, technically, but it's not that busy. I'd bet you could get 10-15 slips at Grand Isle without much trouble.

I hope to be able to join you guys. I'm tentatively planning a trip to Chicago for that first week of August and could find this CSR crew for a night or two if you're south of Grand Haven. My original plan (if you guys ended up in Mack City or something :)) was to stop in either New Buffallo or Michigan City. Both look to have nice marinas with decent options for a beer and a meal nearby.

Stop in New Buffalo, more convenient to walk to restaurants and shopping than Michigan City. Get gas in Michigan City as NB gas has ethanol.

If your going to Holland. I have stayed at the Yacht Basin Marina...it is on the North side of the lake. Nice facilities, store, Pool and bar but absolutely nothing around after that.

Just south of Holland in Saugatuck. If you can get on the North side of Lake Macatawa you can walk around town and restaurants and bars.

You western guys probably already know all this just throwing it out there

I’m flexible but I’m with Stee, not much to do in Holland.
In Sugutuck there is a wall at the Ship & Shore where you could fit maybe five boats on the wall and others could raft off. They have a nice pool and lots to do in town.
MM if you want to call Johnny at 269-998-9142 he could tell you if they can accommodate us on those dates. He’s not the most friendliest guy and he only takes cash. LOL

I was thinking we would need 7-10 slips just for us, not counting if B&E wanted to participate.

Who is in the weekend of July 27th and 28th, with check-in the 26th?

I’d recommend using Holland as a home base for the get together and having Saugatuck be the day trip. Load a bunch of people who want to go in several boats and park at Tower Marina for the day.

As it stands now, I have vacation that week, so it would work. The only monkey in the wrench is I just took a captain upgrade based In Ontario, CA. It is possible for my vacation to be realigned with the upgrade.

FYI, I think Saugatucks venetian festival is July 26 and 27. It will be quite busy but also a lot of "stuff" happening.

I was just going to post that but you beat me to it,
A lot of people just raft off in the river near town for the weekend and Dinghy to town.

Definitely interested but date and location dependent. I agree on South Haven, Saugatuck or Grand Haven having the most to do. South Haven's (south) municipal marina is an easy walk into town or to the beach...

I was trying to do something different than SH, which we did last time.

It's our first year on the Lake, so I will defer to the experts. We will turn it into a tour of the southern half of the lake on both sides, probably spending a couple of weeks touring. Mike

If you try GH, you can probably get slips the first part of that weekend. Coast Guard Festival is that week. All slips are reserved, but they don't start to fill up until Sunday. You might be able to book the pier at Grand Isle, a little up river, but still accessible to town with the trolley.
